I just received this coral for a LFS. It was sitting next to a favia with bright green sides and brown eyes under a 6 bulb T5 fixture with 6 Geissman Actinic Plus bulbs.
When it first arrived I sat it about 2 inches from the sand, then moved it up near the top a day later, about 6-9 inches from the surface of the water, thinking it was more like an acropora than a favia, since it's more hard like an acropora than soft tops like a doughnut coral. I have 6 HO T5 bulbs, 3 X ATI Aquablue Plus, 2 X Geissman Actinic Plus and 1 X ATI Blue Plus. I've been using all blue bulbs for 2 hours from 11 am-1pm, then all 6 bulbs from 1 pm-8 pm, then all blue bulbs from 8-9, then just one blue bulb from 9pm-10pm.
After a couple of days of sitting 6-9 inches from the top top of the water (T5 bulbs are 2 inches above water), it looked a little washed out, so I moved it down lower in a more shaded area. It didn't recuperate there, so I moved it down farther and back in a non-shaded area. The distance from the top of the water to the sand is 22 inches.
Any suggestions on the name and lighting requirements? I went back to the LFS without the piece in hand and the owner said it was a "Dragon Soul Favia." He's a great guy, been selling corals for years and is highly recommended by the local aquarists, but he has so much turn over, I'm not sure he remembers the exact piece I'm referring to, since I didn't uproot it to take it back to him.
It was BRIGHT orange with tiny red polyps when I first got it under the 3 X white bulb/3 X blue bulb T5 lighting.
As always, you folks are a GREAT help.
