New Crocea- Placement question

Hi, I just got a really nice Crocea. He is a little larger than I thougt (4 inches long or so) so he is not going to fit on the rock I originally wanted. My question is can I place him on the bottom of the tank? I have a very fine layer of sand only so he would be able to place his foot on the bottom. Does a rock offer him more protection even with the almost bare bottom?

I have a 5+ year old NFL football sized Derasa on the other side of the tank which preferes the sandy bottom but wanted some advise on the Crocea.

I believe croceas prefer the rocky surface compared to the deresa's likeing of the sand bed

I realize that so that is why I was asking. I placed a concrete plug underneath him so he can attach to that safely.
