Hi Reeflover37,

LED's can be deceptively bright. We would recommend starting at 50% then increase intensity by 5% every week or two. From there, you can gauge when to stop by seeing how your corals respond. If your corals begin to retract from too much light, then you would know to stop and back off the intensity a bit.

Just got into the hobby. I have a 42 gallon bowfront. 36 long 20 deep and 18 wide. I would like to have all types of coral. Would this be a good investment?

Congratulations on the new tank! A 36"-48" Orbit Marine Pro would be a good starting point. This fixture will allow to you keep high-light corals towards the top of your aquarium and lower-light corals toward the bottom.

Another option if you don't mind spending a bit more money upfront is the 27" MaxSpect Razor 15,000K. This light is more powerful, so it will allow you to keep any coral anywhere in the aquarium. At the same time, it is fully dimmable so you can operate the light at whatever intensity you need.

I have a question... I have a single 48" OMP and I am on the fence.. I bought it when it first came out and although I do like the color when at full go, I am not getting quite the coverage I would like. My 6 bulb T-5 had way better coverage in my 75g. So now I am contemplating switching lights altogether or maybe adding a second OMP.

My question is can I get a single controller to control both individual units or would I be stuck with two units?

Hi some1fishy,

A 6-bulb T5 fixture is 324W, so it will take more than one 67W Orbit Marine Pro LED to match the output. With two Pro's, you will be able to control them with a single remote but will have two separate 'controllers'.

If you have any other questions or would like suggestions on different fixtures, please let us know.

Hi,

I have a 124 Gallon mixed reef. Some SPS and softies, mushrooms, etc. Tank is 60"Lx24"Wx22"D
I currently have 3 10K 175W MH and 2 96W 50/50 PC's on the tank. Would love to replace the lights with LED.

Would a dual pro give me comparable light? Also, I spoke to a local fish store and he said the Orbit Marines they tested had a prominent red/orange tinge to them that they were not able to get rid of. Is this normal?

Hi Va7zt,

That's quite a bit of light you currently have: 717W. Unfortunately, the Dual Orbit would not replace what you currently have as the 48"-60" Dual Orbit is only rated at 134W. With the Warm white and Magenta LED's, the fixture does have a slight tinge: however, it does help to bring out certain colors.

We would recommend something more powerful: such as a 43.5" MaxSpect Razor or two EcoTech Marine Radions.

Hi I have a standard 75 gallon 48 1/2 x 18 1/2 x 21 1/8 purchased the 48-60" current orbit marine pro, I'm ready to start placing corals into tank, wondering if should use the m4 pre-program to acclimate and for how long do I acclimate before using m1 or m3 program, or should I be manually setting my lights.

We would recommend to first start with the M2 acclimation mode for two weeks followed by the M4 mode for another two weeks.

just one thing: stop talking about watts - they are not light.
a watt is a unit of energy not a unit of light!
the world got started with this when the only lights were old bulbs way back but they have never been a way to say what kind of light was made.

so a 13 watt led light can be "better" than a 100 watt bulb both by putting out more light and by using less electric power and by generating less heat.

just saying....

It would be great if all the lighting manufacturers provide spectrum analysis as well as implement some sort of standardized testing to provide PUR ratings for their lights. Even PAR ratings can be easily manipulated to give false information in a reef aquarium application.

Majority of hobbyists understand wattage, but only a small portion understand the difference between PAR, PUR or be able to understand differences between spectrum analysis charts.

Fortunately, with our experience, we are able to help hobbyists understand what light they need and put it in a language most can understand.

Orbit Marine Pro for SPS?

Orbit Marine Pro for SPS?

I have a 75 gallon, would the pro grow even sps in my tank? Thx!

Hi mwolf!

It would have to be easier, beginner-friendly SPS corals placed at the very top of your aquascape or near the top of the aquarium.

A standard 75 gallon tank has dimensions of 48" x 18" x 21" and, according to the manufacturer's PAR chart, it would not be strong enough to keep SPS in the lower half of the aquarium if you really want the SPS corals to keep their nice color.

Do you stock the replacement remotes for the Marine Pro? Love my light but haven't seen my remote in the last two months, !!! Not sure where to get one.

Thanks, Maria
