I'll have to check out the CORA auction, but it sounds similar in concept to the "garage sale" we had in January which was well attended and seemed popular. It was a more informal meeting that gave everyone a chance to socialize and sell off unused equipment. Should we make it an annual event?
Hey all-
Hopefully this isn't hijacking the thread...
The CORA Auction will hopefully be a little more organized than what I think of when you say garage sale (although I didn't attend the C-Sea Garage Sale, so it may have been more organized than it sounds). The auction will be similar to the auctions held by the Ohio Cichlid Association (
http://www.ohiocichlid.com)and the Greater Cincinnati Aquarium Society (
http://www.gcas.org). They're auctions are mostly freshwater fish and plants. The CORA auction will be mostly coral frags and reef related items.
CORA is allowing drygoods since most reef related drygoods are relatively valuable. The other clubs only take drygoods as donations to prevent people from unloading junk out of their fishroom (how many used Whisper filters can you really handle).
The goal of the auction is to reduce the impact of harvesting from wild reefs and promote captive grown livestock.
We're allowing retailers to bring aquacultured and farmed corals as well.
CORA's split is $1 per item + 10% of the selling price. CORA will subtract the split from your total sales and cut you a check a week or so after the auction.
If you have an expensive item, you can pay $5 upfront to set a minimum bid price, but you have to reclaim the item if it doesn;t sell. If you're leaving early, you can pay $1 to prioritize any item.
Admission is free, so if you're interrested, come on down and check it out.
If anyone wants to pre-register as a seller, please PM me with your contact info and an estimate of how many items you'll bring. I'll give you a 3 letter seller code. Still, anyone can show up and register the day of the auction... preferably before the auction starts...
We have a special forum setup just for the auction if you want info, or need to ask a question:
