I thought it would be a good idea for the on-line members to start getting some ideas down, in which the "newly elected" officials could get some ideas as to what direction it's club members are wanting to go.

I would like to see equiptment available for club use
1). Hanna PO4 and NO3 meters
2). Apogge Quantum Meter
3). TDS meter---already avail. for club use
4). Refractometer

Group Buys on...
1). Salt buckets
2). Killawatt Meters
3). clean up crews {snails, hermits, stars}

Coral of the Month-- maybe?:crazy1:

More meetings with social themes, DIY workshops, speakers.

Well with is just a start please add to the list. I am sure there are other ideas, lets get the ball rolling, now would be the best time for new ideas.

Hi,

I have talked about these before. Could we get some equipment manufactures to talk about some of their new products? How about area reef clubs(Michigan/PA/Indiana) talking about what their clubs are about? Should our club be looking into reef education programs for local schools? How about partnering with local manufactures(ie:Aquarium Systems,URI) to gauge new products from a consumer view point.

Coral of the month is an idea that ScottFarcus brought up, another reef club was doing something simmilar in which individuals would purchase some type of corals and then clubmembers could purchase frags.

Seeing as how Aquarium Systems is located in Mentor, Ohio, i am surprised no one has worked out a deal of some type with them. Sounds like a great idea

What about trying to save a bit of money by finding a centralized location for a nationally known speaker to address both the C-SEA members and one of the CORA, NORA, PMASI club's members simultaniously so we could pay for half the travel and half the housing and half the speaker's fee instead of footing the bill for another speach. This would allow more good speakers and maybe save money for other club activities.

I personally have no problem using my van to carpool with a group of other members. I am sure there are others who could do the same and we could drive and hour away from Cleveland and the guys from NORA, CORA, PMASI etc... could go about the same distance.

I know I am not the only one that makes 2 hr round trips to Salty Critter for things. I am sure we could get enough of a turnout for these combined events.

It would be cool if we could plan to visit a LFS on the same day as the speaker so we could get to see other LFS without the long ride alone. I would love to check out a couple new stores and bring a cooler along for any purchases. They spend much more time in a bag when they are shipped and they should be fine even if it takes us 5 hrs to get them home into water.

I would like to do the coral of the month. Also I would like to do the carpool some other fish stores and speaker. We also have a full size van as that we could use. Thanks, Tim

Its self serving, but it would be nice if the meetings were held on a weekend evening. I can't make Friday nights, and I wonder how many others are similarly situated.

How about a new member chairperson and/or committee? They could help new members (like myself) learn the basics of SW, set up their tanks, learn how the club operates, and so on.

Weekends....man, my wife doesn't like the fact i'm gone on fridays....forget about the weekend....

Me thinks it's Time to get a new wife that is unless current is smoking hot.:D

I like the weekend idea -- the reason I don't participate is that I cannot go from my house (Chardon) to the west side after work. I just don't have the time.

Don't get divorced in Summit county and it may be cheaper than reef keeping :).

Greg, I am the new member chairmen and I am more than willing to help anyone out that asks for it. If anyone would like a class oh how to do more advanced setups or how to solve issues. Lets get some specific issues to cover suggested and we can figure out the best way to discuss them.

divorce is cheaper than reefkeeping...I let the ex wife keep the built in tank...so no more tank maintenance and wishing I would have set it up different...now I can start over!..lol..

Also a website with our own Discussion Board would be a nice bonus!!
:)

Might help with communication, and we would look really cool

You've already helped me a few times and seeing your tank was very enlightening.

I've also had a few other members help out greatly.

i'd like to see a frag mounting workshop. i'm getting better at it, but i've had a few mishaps.

Hi Greg10,

The frag workshop is usually held in Sept. and cost about $20 with each person getting several frags to take home.

Andy,
You should have stuck around at the meeting. We covered a lot of this. :) I am anxious to see what ideas that were brought up the new board implements.

I think the logistics of coral of the month with the whole club is just going to get too complicated. We talked about doing more frag workshops. This seemed to be the most highly attended meeting without a well known speaker. If admission charged is high enough to cover all costs, put some money in the club account, and bring in new members why not do more of them.

Our own discussion board was brought up. It seemed most members didn't see any benefit. I kind of agree that a link on the c-sea website to this forum is just as effective, and costs nothing.

Group buys was a big topic. I think we need to put more thought into things everyone uses. Cleanup crews is a great suggestion. I worry even things as simple as salt is going to lead to a debate over what brand to do the buy on. The auto top off buy seems like a great unit at a really good price, but even that only got a response from less than 1/4 of the club. The club has been burnt in the past when putting up money for buys, and members didn't follow through with the funds for what they ordered. If it wasn't for that group buys would be a lot easier.

I brought up the idea of a greeting committee of sorts. We need to work out a way to get new members more comfortable with the group without dragging them to the front of the meeting, and announcing who the newbie is.

I also think changing up the day of the meeting would be nice. We are obviously never going to get a group this large to agree on one day everyone can attend. We do have potential members in the area we are missing out on because the schedule is always the same.

I've spent a lot of time browsing other club forums here on RC. To be honest I don't see much for ideas coming across from other groups. Almost all of the groups are looking for ways to save money. Some have come up with some REALLY creative ideas to save a LOT of money. Other clubs are just finding e-tailers that will offer a small discount, or free shipping. Regardless I think it would be best for this club to try to involve the local shops as much as possible if we are going to continue to try to do group purchases.

CORA is working on an auction for members to sell off unused equipment/frags/corals. That might make for an interesting meeting that could have a good turn out.
