New Echinophyllia stinging my clam?

Hey everyone. I just picked up an Echinophyllia yesterday, and I put it on the rock near my clam and away from other corals thinking that the clam would not be affected by the echino - Perhaps I was wrong.

This morning the clam has a mucus net around it like it was trying to protect itself. I have never seen that before. The Echino didn't look particularly agressive, but when I picked it up and moved it to a place all by itself my had was tingling for a few minutes afterwards. I blew off the mucas from the clam and everything looks ok.

Anyone seen this before? I know Echinophyllia is a strong stinger.

Thanks.

Jamie

I think echinos have one of the most powerful stings. 9 out of 10 times they will win. I had a acan lord fall on top of my echino and in a matter of a few hours Half the acan was showing skeleton, it looked as if it was being eaten. My acan is recovering and I will start a new thread showing the recovery in a few weeks.

I always thought corals ate each other's tisue if they were too close
