New England Aquarium?

Hello everyone! Been pretty hectic and busy the last few months. Really missing not having a tank. But hopefully everything will fall into place for my big build this winter.

I'm planing a weekend visit with the family to the New England Aquarium this coming weekend. Having never been there can anyone recommend some other sight seeing areas in the near vicinity? My daughters would really like to visit a beach. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks...

The history in the area is very rich and the freedom trail is worth the trip around, the uss constitution "old ironsides" was really cool.you can visit the graves of Sam Adams , Benjamin Franklin, and other key historical political figures. Ned Divines in the Quincy market has the best clam chowder I've ever had, I'm not sure about the time of year but if possible go on a whale tour, that was pretty cool if not just a cruise on a ferry from boston to salem is neat and good opportunity for some sky line photos, and dont forget the restaurant that inspired a tv show.

CHEERS,

The North End is awesome. If you don't mind a short drive, Concord is awesome. Walden Pond is great for a hike/swim and the history in Concord is fantastic. Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is great if you are at all interested in Literary history. Salem wasn't worth the trip for me, if felt very forced. If you are up for an hour or so drive, Cape Cod is awesome. My family camps every year just outside of provincetown. The beaches out there are amazing.

Went there last year it was amazing, the Museum of Science was great also, I have heard good things about the duck tours they do I missed it but several people recommended it to me.

I agree with salem not being that cool, but the fast ferry trip was the highlight.
I was also there in october so salem was in full swing and still not that impressive, IMO the house of seven gables tour/play was the best thing going there.

+ 1 on Quincy Market, its Always full of entertainers and full of stores! Also if you feel shopping, Newbury Street is also very nice! I went to see the Blue Man Group in Charles Theater and was impressed, its a great show. Hope it helps! Avoid wearing anything relating to Yankees lol :)

Thanks for all the suggestions! We want to pack as much into the day as possible.

We want to really take our time and enjoy the aquarium, for those that went whats a conservative time frame to see the entire aquarium? I know crowds will play a part in that but just trying to layout some kind of agenda. Fours hours? Two hours? We don't plan on seeing any movies or 3D max stuff.

Tito that might be the best advice I have received yet. LMAO.. Priceless..

:)

Four hours is more than enough time for the aquarium. I'll be there on Friday with about 200 7th graders for our annual trip.

My favorite exhibit is the reef tank on your way down to the jellyfish exhibit. Most folks just walk right past it. They have a jellyfish tank set up right behind it with a blue background so it looks like there's jellies swimming just off the reef. Very kewl.

I would echo dining in the North End if you like Italian food.

Go on a Duck Tour. They look goofy but the drivers are lots of fun.

I used to take my kids to Boston all the time, did all the touristy stuff everyone else mentioned. One cool 'cheapie' we found are the water taxis. You can take the kids on a quickie boat trip for a few dollars. Have a hour to kill and want to sit while the kids are entertained -take a water taxi. We also used the taxi to get from the quincy market area to the uss constitution museum.

Dunes Edge is a really nice private campground about a half mile walk to the center of P-Town. There is a private campground in town (weird sounding I know) that is really nice and quite and I cannot think of the name of it. It is a very short walk into town from there. Race Point is on the ocean side of the peninsula, it is a long walk from the parking lot to the beach, it tends to be windy, but the waves are better. Herring Cove is on the cape side of the point, it is calmer water and wind and you can park right on the beach and walk five feet to the sand, which is nice. There is a ton to do on the cape. As a massive baseball fan, I strongly recommend a cape league game. Each town has their own team and the games are free. If you are a baseball fan, there is nothing like it. Last time I went, there were at least 5 guys playing for Orleans who are now in the Major Leagues.

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions. Should be a fun time tomorrow.

Scott Hope you had fun today!

They changed my favorite display!!

They moved that aquarium to a corner style tank with a rock background to make room for the new Skates and Rays exhibit/touch tank.

I miss the old display, but it was fun petting the cow-nose stingrays as they swam by!

Went to Pittsburgh this past weekend. As zoo members in Rochester, we got into the Pitt Zoo and aquarium for free. It was great. What an awesome trip.
