NEW Euro-Reef - Broken in 20 minutes!

PITSTOP

New member
Today, I received a new RS135 purchased directly from Euro-Reef.

I sat it in my sump a few inches away from my CS100 - plenty of room for both skimmers.

I plugged it in and it started beautifully.

Within 30 seconds huge quantities of bubbles started shooting into the collection cup filling it in seconds.

I lowered the stand pipe to its lowest setting and closed the air valve 1/2 way shut.

Within 10 minutes the pump stopped - I could not get it back on - I tried all the usual tricks.

I opened the pump housing (new needle wheel impeller by the way) and the ceramic shaft was shattered in 5 pieces.

I left a message at Euro Reef, yet to hear back from them.

Any of you have a contact at Euro-Reef that can get me a replacement impeller ASAP?

Is the pump bad or just the impeller?

Thanks, I'm bumming...:rolleye1:

Euroreef RC 180 Broken < 30 days

Mine broke on Sunday. Sent email Monday, no reply. Called left message Monday. Received no call back. Faxed information also. Called again on Tuesday. Got to Chip. Chip admitted issues with redesign of pump/impeller. He said he would call back maybe Tuesday night, but definately Wednesday. Still waiting. I guess they are extremely busy. I can only wonder why...Meanwhile my tank stews.
Thanks EuroReef.

Its kind of funny that you get a very expensive skimmer and it breaks.. And as I know your skimmer is like $1100. They should put a very good pump onto these euro-reef skimmers.

Mike Wyzo, call chip or jeff, if you leave them a message and they forget to call back, then call back and bug them, I have had excellent customer sservice from ER, they will take care of you. Even though people sling mudd on reef central regarding Euro Reef customer service, the users here still represent a small percentage of Euro Reefs customer base, as you don't need the internet to be a succesful marine aquarist, so take the nay sayers for what you will. Hope this helps...happy reefkeeping

Reefologist right call them back and bug them they sometime forget to call back but from my experience with them they have a great customer service .

meantime if you have old pump like sedra one check the shaft i find out it's the same size to my gen x pump .

Again, the folks at Euro-Reef were extremely accomodating - immediate replacement of busted impeller.

I am very impressed with the RS135 - the new needle wheel is amazing - but it seems that I am not the only person with this issue - busted ceramic impeller shaft...hmmm...

Saltyfishy123 - the RS135 is not anywhere near $1100 - the new RC250 has not arrived yet!

That sounds like "Great Customer Service" to me, lol.

Yes owsi, I am quite sure that you are perfect in all aspects of your life, so you can be super critical. We others aren't so fortunate, the humans that work at Euro Reef make mistakes too. In the end if it takes some persistance to get YOUR problem resolved, you still win...happy reefkeeping

LOL, they still havent gotten it right. I feel really bad for those who bought a new ER over other proven brands because of the recent "upgrades".

I wasn't the one that boasted about their great Customer Service, I know better!

You are so funny, lol

Asm for fraction of the cost? I'm lost on that one! Would you say the RS135 is comparable to a ASM G3?

I saw the Euroreef for $328 and ASM for $309. Thats no fraction of the cost in my opinon. I have seen a ASM and Euroreef in action and the Euroreef smokes the ASM and the build quality is far superior.
