New Fish Suggestions

The untimely death (fishy suicide) of my Flame Angel last week has left me in need of ideas for a new addition to my SPS dominant 90 gallon reef.

Current inhabitants are:
- pair of Clowns
- Yellow Watchman Goby
- Three Chromis
- Foxface
- Kole Yellow Eye Tang

All my fish are fairly young and small

I would love to add another tang although the tang police would come after me. also wouldn't mind a butterfly fish but if would have to be reef safe.

Any other suggestions ?

Why not get a wrasse? They are hardy and easy to care for. They have a unique swimming patter in and out of rocks and holes.

I really love the coloration of all of these and they are around $40-60. You can always go with a 6 line for probably $20-25 too.

I like the wrasse idea too, but what about a Blenny? You could use something that perches on a rock and oversees things. I love my Starry Blenny as you can see from my avatar.

Long nose hawk as well as all those wrasses mentioned are NOTORIOUS jumpers.

Did you cover your aquarium yet?

No I didn't ,maybe I will stay away from the notorious jumpers.

Really thinking some type of Butterfly, maybe a copperband or heniochus diphreutes.

I don't understand your reluctance to cover your tank. Clowns and Gobies jump too; most species will if given the right set of circumstances. We have an obligation to keep our livestock as safe as we can. Remember, when a fish jumps in the ocean, it stands a pretty good chance of landing in water, not carpet.

As I mentioned in the other thread I am just one of many tank owners that do not use a cover for a variety if reasons . This thread however is about suggestions for a new fish.

i have a cleaner wrasse fun to watch clean the fish off also the blonde naso tangs are cool to watch seem to be a very laid back tang.

Just saw a nice powder blue at ARC but I don't want the ich headache.

I like anthias and chromis together. Wrasse, starki damsel . 90 g is a pretty small tank. I'd pick a fish i'm really into. Small tough fish like royal gramma,tailspot blenny. Wont add a ton to the bioload.

it's 4 foot long. you're going to have to decide how many fish is right for the tank. i could rattle off 50 fish that i would personally like to own. narrowing that number down to (10 ?) or whatever isn't easy for me. i know from experience it's pretty easy to end up with a tank full of so so fish.

You could possibly maybe add a Zebrasoma. But I would say 90 is too small for a naso or Acanthurus species. I am no expert but this chart help if you wanted to a add another tang.

Knowing how your tank is set up is imperative for what fish people suggest.

Are you planning on using a qt? I'm not sure why the extra ich concern.

Well I wouldn't say 90 is a small tank…medium maybe, but small? No…

it's kind of funny how we perceive what a "small" aquarium is vs. a "large" aquarium.

To me, a 90 is small. To be fair, I perceive a 220 as "small".
As far as your average home aquarium is concerned these are probably actually "medium" sized aquariums.
If they were freshwater they might be perceived as "large".

I'm going to go out on a limb here with a radical :lmao: suggestion:

IF you have some swimming room in a 90 gallon aquarium you CAN maintain a Powder Blue Tang IF you do your homework.

To be perfectly frank- the species is a BIT&H.
A PBT WILL be aggressive towards the other fishes in your aquarium and that's why a PBT should be QT'd and introduced LAST.

Fishes that are bullied tend to jump and you STILL haven't covered your aquarium.
