Thanks for the input Gary, although I would really love a PBT I probably won't get one. I do have minimal rock work and lots of swimming space but not sure I want that challenge. Although its good to hear you think its possible. The aquarium is covered with white egg crate at the moment until I can find black.

IMO, you might not want to use light diffuser over an SPS dom system.

Just me, but the most important step first that will be worthwhile doing is-
Cover the tank. The netting is best but even those lighting diffuser panels (avaialble in standard white or the premium black) cut to size work better than nothing.
You may have fish that never jump. But there will always potentially be some that do.
Angels will, Wrasse are big time jumpers. I even had a blenny that jumped, defied the odds and got out a small opening in a diffuser cover.
With more expendature on fishes, it's worth it to cover the tank.
You might "try" a "Genicanthus melanospilos" Angel or another Genicanthus species. I found them to be very nice. Maybe not quite as striking as a flame Angel. But the Genicanthus species tend to be water column Planktonic feeders, less likely to pick on corals. Just an idea. Might not fit your preferred "color scheme". But there are many nice ones. Check them out and see if you like them.

Well technically any cover diffuses some light, this is just temporary.
The amount of light lost with 1/4" mesh netting is negligible, with half inch, it's virtually none. You won't notice the difference. It's only a matter of time before you lose another fish to jumping. It may not happen tomorrow, this year, or even next, but it will happen. All fish will jump, even the ones that nobody thinks will. I've seen my clownfish jump before. The cost of a DIY screen will probably save you money in the long run.

Or, you could get/make a tall canopy, and hope the fish won't land on the center brace and dry up like a potato chip. That's what I do.

We lost "Big Mama", our female Maroon Clown from going up 'n over.
I've lost two onyx clowns from jumping. One of them was breeding with my female. That's an expensive loss...
Yeah... I've got eggcrate over the tanks now.

Egg crate didn't even prove to be enough for me. My Blenny jumped out and made it through one of the holes, laid there and got fried by the halides. Other than that, I've had good luck with those so far. Other fish have jumped but were deflected.
When I didn't have covers at all (& I have a high open top canopy) I had different gobies, more than one wrasse, an even an angel jump out and hit the floor! It sits about 13+ inches on top and the lights are on top of that even higher- and they still could jump high enough sometimes to fly out. Eitherway, simple point- covering the tank is definitely worth it. The netting is probably the best method. But anyway that still allows air exchange is at least better than nothing.
