New Frag Tank Build

nicely done. i dunno about anyone else, but i wouldnt throw halides on a 12 inch tank unless you are growing lots of sps or something.. 6-8 spaced T5's would do just fine IMO

Your usually going to see halides over similar look down tanks. Its very hard to look down on them with T5s. You get a real bad reflection. They would also cover most of the top of the tank making it hard to look down into the water.

Watt for watt wise it would also be about the same to cover the same amount of real estate below.

Nice users name by the way, "If I wanted to listen to an A$$hole I'd Fart."

You should be very proud of yourself, the tank came out excellecnt and looks very professional. The corals look awesome.

Thanks for your comments. I went with MH for the reason that Brent mentioned. I don't want to have the top covered up with lights. So far, I have to be selective what goes under the 14K 250W bulb. However, most things seem to do well under the 20K. The lower light corals (acans, some chalices, etc) I just have place around the edges of the tank, where the PAR readings are much lower.

I never did get a chance to take pictures yesterday ... I might find some time today. If so, I will post.

Here are some updated pictures... not the best, I will have to see if I can get some better close-ups. I need a better tripod!

Yes, the Tang is there for the algae and also for my enjoyment :)

Those are the 3" frag disks I have... I have some 4" ones too, but haven't needed to use those yet... hopefully some day.

really filling up fast, good job! Let me know when your in buffalo next time, I can help in that department. I have hundreds of highend frags available.

looks like your stand is 36" high from looking at your stack of wood on your first page pic. Do you like that height with your tank. Thats the height I was planning on going with for my 72"x36"x12"H. Wondering if I should go a couple inches lower so I can reach into the back of the water easier and look down into the tank better. I have kids so I didn't want to go too low. Don't want to find toys floating in the water.

Brent,
I will definitely stop by next time I am in Buffalo! Thanks for the invite.

I like the height of the stand is about 32 inches. The tank is about 5 feet from where I sit in my office, so I wanted it at eye level sitting down. So it is perfect for what I am doing. 36" might be a little high for looking down. With a 12" high tank and a 36" tall stand, the top will be at 4 feet. That is a little high to reach into and to look down on.

I would recommend going a little lower and taking other measures with the kids. The kids will grow, but the tank is going to stay the same. Just my thoughts...

No unfortunately life got busy and the tank is now dry. Still have my 110 gallon kitchen build going strong though.
