New Gigantea-MH On or Off

Thanks for the info. Much appreciate it. It's nice to see someone who has experience with a similar issue.
I would say your Zooxanthellae transplant is quite an experiment. Great work there!

FWIW, check this out http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=16301392....more than one way to rehab an anemone, but I fed mine DAILY. Went with krill, about one or two a day for the first couple of weeks. I reasoned that the lack of zoo would mean the gig needed supplemental nutritition - hence the heavy feeding. I don't know if I know if I'd call myself an expert, but I still have the two pictured in the thread with me to this day (and I rarely feed now). The green carpet last night ate one of my favorite echinata frags....grrrr. And I mean ATE it. Digested it and spit it back out this morning after pulling it out of it's hole - the whole thing.

If you haven't come to this point already, don't sweat an OCCASIONAL shrink down...especially in the first couple weeks. IME, that's just acclimation happening. If you fought the urge to do something for the sake of it, that's a good thing. With the other life in your tank, you should have biological indicators if anything is amiss - as long as the rest of the life in your tank is happy, your carpet should come along if it is going to.

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me a pm....you look well on your way. Your carpet should end up close to the color as the one in my old thread.

Tonight marks the 2nd week for this gig. in the tank. I've running a full 8hrs of MH and feeding it once every 3days. I'm seeing some improving on the color and the size. I hope to have a positive report in two weeks.
Thanks everyone for your inputs and suggestions.

Latest pics from tonight.

I wasn't going to give an update until next week but since you ask, here it is.

3 weeks in the tank now. It's doing well. I can really see zooxanthellae start to pop up.
I changed the diet a little bit tonight. I picked up some Elos pellet food that is supposed to be full of nutritional value for the fish. It was feeding night for the nem so I decided to stuffed the shrimp full of these pellet for added nutrition.

Elos SMV2 fish food. If it's expensive, it must be good right? :)

I appreciate your keeping up with this thread. It gives me hope that when I'm ready, I have some method of acclimating for success.

I was reading another thread that was saying that the gigs are intentionally bleached for improved shipping success.

Great anemone and very good progress. Nick, your picture are always so nice. Two question for your:
Do you turn the pump off for the picture?
With the high light of the reef, How low do yous set your ISO?
Thanks,

gosh what kinda cam you use?? that bottem clownfish is like HEY WHAT YOU DOING!!! GGRR

I am a photographer...Let just say that I use a big camera. ;)

Yeah, I saw that post. Don't really know what to think of it. But it sort of makes sense in a way if the Zooxanthellae that the nem is expelling during shipping will end up poisoning it.

Minh,
I do not shut off my pump. Most of the shots here are done with studio flash. The flash duration of the studio flash is meant to freeze motion. I don't want to go into detail but I am a fashion photographer on the side.

To answer your question about the light and the ISO, most reef tank regardless of how much light you think you have, is not enough to freeze the action. The more light the better. The lowest ISO you can shoot while keeping your shutter speed is better. High ISO=Noise
At f/9, you would be lucky if you get 1/250" of shutter with high powered MH and T5s comibed. To freeze action, you would need at least 1/1000" shutter speed.

Progress

Progress

This thing is growing big! and fast! I can't believe in less than a month, it has doubled the size.

Like I mentioned above, most the shots so far were done when the tank lights were off and shot with a flash.
Here is a direct comparison of tank lighting from the 3rd day being in tank and 15 mins ago. The color is coming up slowly. I think it actually bleached even further after the initial introduction. But the size difference is huge! I will get more shots tonight.

Look at how small the clowns look!
_dsc5652.jpg

Did I mention that it ate one of my chromis? This past Sunday, I noticed one of the chromis was having a conflict with the clowns for some reason and was really close to the nem. I watched and watched and thought, geeeh, this guy is going to die. I shooed it with the algae scrubber but the guy kept coming back to the clowns. Next thing I know, I saw a snap by the nem and a struggle in the tentacles and that was pretty much it.
Just like that, I'm down to 4 chromis from 5.

Mine ate my Mandarin. I did not see it but a very healthy male Mandarin just no where to be found. Also about getting big. Mine go from 8 inches or so to 18 in a few months with every other day feeding.

The foot. I noticed the underside of the pedal disc is also colorless. This should be blue like the foot(?)
Those veracues is looking better. It was pretty pale when I got it. Pretty purple dots now.

Near the oral plate, the column is white. Darker blue near the foot. I think your anemone is still bleached and well on it's way to recovery. It should not be translucent. Here is a picture of the underside of mine. I trying to take a picture with my cell phone that may show eggs in my anemone. It should not be translucent. The tentacles at this particular edge of the oral plate is getting blased with a PH and stay short, other tentacles are long else where.

Do I really have to update this every two days? Lol. :D
The clowns are complaining about the posing in front of the camera. The gig is doing well. I will have pictures tomorrow for its 1 month being in the tank.
