New Goochsters

I fell asleep today and when i woke up my girlfriend had put these in my tank. They are the brightest zoanthids that ive ever seen in real life. They look like a highlighter or a orange flashlight. Do much goochsters have that intense of coloration to them? I have self identified them as Goochsters they were not bought under that name.

anyone have any advice to keep the bright colors, high light/low light high flow/low flow. It would help if you could chime in if you have some.

i think they are awesome and would pay top dollar. But my GF only paid 10 bucks for a 4 polyp frag, just curious but is that high/low compared to what others paid? let me know.
 
They not as rare here in the bayarea. I've got a 1/2 a disk of these guys and now they're actually reaching out to the main rocks as there's no more space on the disk. Here's an old pic, somewhat un clear but below it are supernovas ( and those are supposed to be bright as heck ). The goochers are actually brighter then True AOGs.

I've got mine mid-tank. I started fragging them a lot against my will (I'm a sucker for someone begging me for a frag), so I'm waiting for them to grow back a bit now.

zoaid came about as a way for reefers to help identify different types/morphs of polyps.

While I am sure their intention was good in starting the site all it did was drive up the price of polyps because they were "named" by "some reefer" on their site. It created quite a buzz and IMHO it really hindered and not helped zoanthid collecting. The only people that benefit from that site and names are re/whole/sellers.

The website/owners could have done a much better job of discerning between the different/similar morphs and how each is changed under different circumstances. It would have been nice for a "namer" to have some sort of origin of the polyp, much easier said than done, but it would have helped. The names on that site are given names nothing more. Most of all the polyps are a morph of a different and each can be achieved through different set ups.

If that site would like to get technical on genus then I am all for that! but I even get lost in that stuff.

Just because they are on that site does not mean they are worth $1 or $30 per polyp. I would never pay more than 1-20 cents per polyp. All of the polyps on that site can be found by just looking around. Just try to understand/learn how lighting and nutrients might effect a polyp's color and your LFS will sell them to you at the 1-20 cent per polyp price.

I do not think that the site should go away, but it should also not dictate price because some pudd put a name on a polyp he got from his LFS. The buyers will set the market and if they are basing it on a goofy pseudo name then the price will be higher.

The only thing that site benefits is re/whole/sellers. JMHO

i enjoy the fact that we can all just say tubbs blue zoas instead of having to go into details describing the colors of all their parts.

i do agree with geo as well tho.

I agree with Geo as well and I don't think the sight should be destroyed. Some agree and some don't with its purpose. I just wish we could enjoy those pink palys without the mere mentioning of names. Further comments from me on this topic would simply take LoudProudNPunk thread further off topic.
