New Green Gig!

This guy is moving around trying to get into the light and flow... He's moved off the egg crate and seems to me he wants out of this darn QT.

What does everyone think, put him in the DT today?!

i think he is a haddoni, and he is feeling uneasy because he doesn't feel the sand on his feet, and there is too much flow for his liking, that is why he moves around, very much a haddoni characteristic. Gigs usually are lazy to move around

the purple verracue you posted in your pic, even the eggcrate looks purple so you might have mistaken it as purple dots, but under the flash pics as you posted, no purple dot i can see...... my gig purple dot can be seen under any lighting condition. .......... then what do i know :)

regardless of which specie, it is a VERY nice carpet to tell you the truth.

I am really very much hoping you are wrong here on this.... Some more updated pictures.

What does everyone think here? One of the things that brings me to a Gig is the tapered tentacles all over the place, and the verracue on the underside I can see. It's not ridiculously prominent but than again my QT is hard to see into so I must admit I do not have the best view here. From what I could see they went far down his column like my purple's..

Another variable that probably needs to be considered is whether the QT is really a perfect home for these animals for them to act their normal-ness. Mine might not be at this point and he might be wanting out... It's worth mentioning our purple had bulbous tentacles until he settled in and now he's a shag rug.

So my quandry is this... I am actually going away this weekend for two days and having a buddy watch the tank. I was hoping to get this guy in today or tomorrow, and see how they behave before I leave..

Should I put him into my DT today on the rock where I wanted him and see what happens? I don't have any extra sand to put him in and see if he is much happier in sand.

Also, when I was at the LFS in the runner tub they had two big big haddonis (also green) a purple gig, and the green gig... We inspected the green haddonis they had no visible verracue, the purple obviously did and this green one did....

Alright, well after making an executive decision and almost 5 full days in QT, I decided to move him into the DT to hopefully his happy spot on the rock island... Pictures of how he looks now... The mouth, tentacles by the mouth, and the tapered tentacles just don't look like a Haddoni to me... We'll find out in time, but he looks great to me.

My purple gig is on the island to the left and now is easily about 1' in size... We'll see what happens..... The more tentacles acclimate the tapered and pointy like my purple's they become. My guess is the Radions are MUCH brighter than the old LED fixture on top of the QT, so we'll see as the day ramps up (12-3PM being 100%) how he responds.

It's a good thing I work from home so I can sit in front of my tank all day and watch to see what happens, then intervene if need be. On to the good stuff... pictures!

Picture for reference.. The greens colors look AWESOME under the Radions....

I am by no means an expert, but we'll see...

Settling in a little more.. Hasn't moved, and is expanding some in size. It will no doubt take a bit to acclimate to the intensity of the Radions vs the other LEDs... it's about high noon on this reef.

From my observation, tentacles are going from bulbous to tapered the longer the nem is in the tank..

What do you guys think?

Mouth is still nice and tight with tentacles going right up to the rim like my purple.. I would imagine going from almost no light other than a little sunlight at the LFS to LEDs will take some getting used to, even for a Gigantea.

I don't care what it is....it's just stunning IMO :D

Thank you! He certainly hasn't shied away from being in the middle of my two MP40s at almost full blast in reef crest mode... not to mention he is sitting about 15" under a Radion Gen 2... so far so good.. the more he acclimates the less bubbly and more gig like tentacles they look. There are certainly rows that aren't complete with tentacles, and he has a ways to go in recovery, but the fact that he never deflated, hasn't ever had a gaping mouth in my care seems like a good start to me.

We'll see what happens, but the color is striking. I have some green todd's torch in my tank on the other end, and man this is just a stunning neon neon green with plenty of zoox on the bottom of the tentacles.

I don't see any gigantea traits in this pic:hmm2::hmm2:

While this picture is NOT a good one, I respectfully disagree... I saw with my own eyes purple verracue going halfway or so down the column, and the mouth looks Gig like and not Haddoni like. It took this guy almost three days in QT to really get some size, so we'll see in a couple of days, but tentacles just scream gig to me, one slow to acclimate and get used to my lights, etc, but a gig.. We'll see..

Either way... It is a nice specimen. Lets see how it colors up and how it makes it in the DT for a while.

Agreed. From what I can tell (lights out) it hasn't moved and is still perched on the top of the island..

We'll see what happens when lights go on here shortly.

Updates from today... Stayed put, mouth tight as could be, and just acclimating to the new environment. So far so good...

would love to see a Video if you have one of your tank and Anemones

In this case, no news is good news. Hasn't deflated at all through the day or night time, hasn't moved from his spot since he was put there, mouth is super tight (I've seen the yellow rim from time to time when he wants to show me) and color is just stunning from across the room. Looks like someone put a nuclear rod in my tank, its crazy.. The gig has been snatching food from the column as I feed the tank as well, so feeding response is great.

This guy has a long road to recovery though so it's not all roses... There are lots of tentacles missing, the rows are broken at some places, but if he can get through initial acclimation, I think he'll be just fine. I would say our purple was bleached, and with feeding is making a great recovery, while almost doubling in size in the process..

Pictures as of this morning.. I'm trying to do my best and do some macro shots so you can see the tentacles showing the tapered nature. My guess is this guy is just super super slow to acclimate to the LEDs. I can only imagine the stress of being collected, sitting in a box for a day or so, sitting in a LFS tank for a day under almost no light just ambient sunlight, then coming to LEDs, now to Radions with a different strength and color spectrum... That's likely why he also is more compact and not spread out like he eventually ended up looking like when he acclimated to my QT LEDs.

Yea, this guy is puzzling me, but I am seeing more and more tapered tentacles vs bulbous... So I'm pretty happy so far.. Eats like a hog, just can't wait to see him as a big shaggy green carpet..

Agreed, these guys are tough to find in the first place, much less in this condition.
