New Green Gig!

Yup, reminds me I need to go out and re-stock the CUC this weekend... These gigs have done a number on them.

Link isn't working.

You are right about finding a green gig. Not so easy. Most other colors are available but the green gigs seem to be somewhat rare.

Here is an update on the green... it's developing in the same way our purple did. Tentacles that are located around the mouth get larger first, then the rest follow suit. Tentacles around the mouth are probably approaching the .5" mark now and when current hits it you can certainly see the shag. Getting fed everything single day with scallops, krill, or cod soaked in selcon.. This guy is getting bigger, hasn't moved, and to me looks awesome.. Thoughts?

Here is a shot of both Giganteas and where they have parked themselves...

Very nice gigs Tom, good score on the green one. It looks very healthy, is it starting to feed now?

Thanks Peter... I have actually been feeding the green gig since day one in the DT.. I had them feed it at the LFS to watch its response and it was excellent. When I put anything on the tentacles, the nem shuts up like a bear trap, it's amazing...

As much as I was so excited about the purple gig, this green assuming it stays in place, will be a show piece once it shags up!!!

They look good...really good. I'm sure it is only a matter of time before they get super shaggy. Is that a word? Anyway, I wanted to say I like the way you have given your gigs room to establish themselves in your tank. This should allow you to build an awesome reef.

Thanks you! If the green develops like our purple, the first couple rows of tentacles around the mouth will get much larger first, and then the size will go outward.. The rows around the mouth on the purple, those tentacles are like 2" easily now..

We built this tank, and designed the aqua scaping with Gigs in mind.. actually, originally I was waffling between Magnificas or Gigs, but decided on Gigs in the end.. I still have one more island.... maybe for a blue someday?? :-)

So I moved the rock work a little, and powerhead to accomodate my Purple Gig, and overnight the green gig is looking for a new spot on the island he was on... Started out overnight directly on the back of the rock, and now is moving toward the front..

Just goes to show you how sensitive these guys are to flow and when they get comfy, they get comfy... He didn't move for two months, then after yesterday mornings work, within 24 hrs is looking for a new spot.

Anyways, will post pictures once he finds a spot and settles in.

I swear, this has got to be the slowest recovery of a Gigantea I've ever seen, but I'll take it since I never had to use cipro on this one... At this rate, the tentacles will have full shag next year.. heh.

Here's the new spot.. A couple inches to the right of the original spot and on the side of the island. More flow than the original spot, and is shagging up now that the lights are starting to come on.

Just in case there is any chemical warfare between the two Gigs, I'm doing a WC shortly, and replacing Carbon & GFO. I don't think there is, but just in case. The Green Gig moved literally hours after I readjusted the purples rock, so I'm thinking it's more of a flow issue.

your green Gigantea may never get shaggy. My green Gig in goinf on his 12 years in captivity and still look sorta like a Haddoni. I think mine is an obvious Gig but he got some Haddoni blood in him.

Very interesting.. What's interesting is, there are clearly some that are getting shaggy, and I mean shaggy. Generally closest to the mouth. Then the outside are moderately shaggy like yours.

Is your entire Gig uniform in tentacle shag, or are there some that are larger? If the ones that are getting shaggy for me continue, he should shag up eventually..

Also I was concerned he was looking weird, then walked by a few minutes later and he was spitting out a big snail shell... Now he is just how he has looked in the last spot. Looks awesome.

Here's just a quick video of the flow and more importantly the tentacles.. They are definitely getting shaggier, it's just taking a LONG time. The pedal on this green doesn't seem a flexible as the purple, more stiff, but getting flexy over time. Either way, this nem is awesome and I can't wait for it to get cozy.

I need to figure out zooming and what not with this darn camera. Either way toward the end you can watch the flow move the shag around.

OK, so whatever caused my green gig to move (personally I think it was the flow, and finally got the energy to make a new home) it was for the better.... We got a baby onyx to pair up with our female that lives in the purple gig, and ever since they have both been going in and out of the green and purple, the green gig has improved substantially... It's HUGE, shaggier than even last week and looks awesome!!

Maybe it just needed some clownin' around?! What do you guys think.
