New Green Gig!

I haven't seen many (greens tend to be less common than purples, which are the most common, then blue) but most of the green ones I've seen tend to look like yours -- less shaggy and very haddoni-like. Conversely, I've also seen haddoni with longer than usual tentacles.

I'm willing to bet that the color variants go beyond just the color. For example, when I had my tan/mauve gig with my purple one, I noticed distinct differences with tentacle length and thickness. Of course, this probably had to do with these particular gigs, but I've seen similar characteristics in the same color morphs.

Thanks.. I don't see many greens either, but the couple I have seen locally look like our regular standard Gigs. I would think that by being here almost six months, should be getting settled in now. Is the purple Verracue a dead give away to a Gig, or are there any haddoni with purple verracue?

Either way, the color is amazing and my onyx pair loves to call'em home.

Figured it was time to update this one too.. Since moving to this spot, the gig has not moved, just gotten much much larger... Still shaggy but not completely shaggy like some other ones... I still strongly believe this is a hybrid, and I've since labeled it our "Giddoni".. The verracue is very purple on the underside and at times is a shag rug, other times not so much.

Either way, our onyx pair splits time between this green gig and our purple.. This was just after a feeding, so the tentacles aren't as tapered as they normally are, but within minutes they will be..

did your gigantea change color? it seems two be two-toned now that its super healthy, neon green in the center and grey-ish around the edges ... or is that just a trick of the lighting?

I think this is a giddoni as well. Shag is really different from my gig

Thanks, I am thinking the same thing as well.

It did not change color, that is just the lights actually.. I usually take pictures during high noon but apparently the late afternoon is a much much better time as they turn out better. The green gig is still neon green in color and hasn't changed a bit since day one, but the amount of tents are growing insanely quickly.

So this Gig is still really elusive to me.. Sometimes it look shaggy, sometimes the tapered tentacles just aren't as long, but what I have noticed is, there are a lot of tiny tiny nubs that continue to grow, and continue to pop up ALL over. Some of them don't seem to be doing a whole lot. The gig hasn't moved in a while and seems happy... Some pictures since I was asked to do an update.. I'm neglecting updating.

There's even a few macro shots of the underside, which decided to flip up as I was walking away. You can see the purple verracue.

BTW, don't mind the cyano, i'm working on it :-) Neither Gig seems to mind.

A real nice tentacle shot. Tell me this doesn't look Gig'ish! Tapered tentacles, and even one you can see as forked.

D'oh! The verracue didn't show up like I had thought... Should've used flash :-(

So an interesting observation... I started carbon dosing last Sunday (Vinegar) to address my high phosphate levels as well as probably nitrate levels, although they are undetectable. In the process of things in general getting much better I have noticed the green gig has been shaggy almost consistently and not just after a meal.. I wonder if he is very sensitive and has stayed in a shorter tentacle way because he wasn't thriving?

This should be interesting as I continue to carbon dose and bring my system to a ULNS..

That anemone sure is purdy! I like the two toned coloration very much. Great to see it doing so well. Thanks for the update!

Thanks! It is absolutely not 100% pure gigantea for so many reasons, but it certainly is cool none the less... Trust me, the green is much brighter, but my camera can't capture it.

So I'm not sure what to make of this anemone.. The foot is firmly buried onto the bottom of the tank because i can see it. my mind is playing tricks on me I believe because..

A) Either the gig is starving and tentacles are dissapearing...
or
B) It's popping out baby new tentacles from bald spots.

Whenever I feed, either target feed or broadcast feed, the gig responds instantly to food so it hasn't started acting differently in that respect, but the showing up of tentacles is what is confusing, and or concerning me.. I'm leaning, and hoping it is just slowly recovering because if you look at some of the early pics of this guy in the HT, when he first expanded, it was literally 6x+ the size I bought it. Maybe it needs to be fed more often as it regrows these tentacles?

I tried going back to old pictures and comparing to what it is looking like now, but nothing conclusive.. Just thought I would share the observation. I'd think if it was sick and it was dying, it wouldn't be starting to show it almost 9-10 months later.

You and me, I think we have a Gigandoni
in real life he is quite a bit greener. I cannot capture the color with my camera. Mine is a very beautiful anemone. It does not mater to me that he cannot decide to be a Gigantea or Hadonni

So this guy is definitely a cross between Haddoni and Gig, but more Haddoni. I've lost a tang, and this morning a mandarin that I put in not even at 9PM last night..

I've made the decision this guy isn't conducive with my reef.... Now the question is how in the heck do I get his huge huge foot off the bottom of my tank glass? I think I would need to just use a wooden spoon, agitate him into getting balled up, then slowly rub his foot until he starts letting go....

This guy is vicious.. and in the over one year I've had my purple, has never even bothered a single fish, while this guy has killed multiple.

Unfortunately, he is too haddoni... He certainly has plenty of gig characteristics, but boy is he a killer.

Help folks? Anyone locally want a beautiful neon green large Gaddoni?
