Ok, I am busting at the the seams here. Want a good laugh? I am a firm beliver in using what you have and spending as little money as possible, this may cause heart failure for you pro's :D

A lot of this stuff I picked up basically for free, here's what I have to work with: A POS 240 acrylic tank with about 20 holes and a few cracks, will be used as a reserviour to keep total volume up.

This is the basic idea, 200 gallons actual water volume of usable tank space and another 250 in filtration and reserviour.

Well David, have to show the first picture to my wife ! She will my stuff is not the real mess she said last week ! :D :D

Anyway, don´t worry I´m just a little jealous for not having my fish room yet... Very nice babies on the other post !!!!!

Anderson.

David,

Looking good. I love the look of a tiered setup. They work well space-wise. Sometimes they are harder to clean but that's life.

Oh yeah, I like the milk carton that says, "St. Thomas Daires" :p :p :p :p :p

What, no baskets?

I was planning to do the raceway/ basket thing based on cost, then these tanks popped up so I grabbed 'em. More work to clean but much better for observation. I get just about the same volume in the 4 X 8 footprint so I'm happy :)

David,

Interesting, what is the foot print of the Bio tower and are you going to supply air at the base of the tower?

THanks

Steve

It's somethingike 18 X 20 and about 48 tall. Again it's not something I would actively seek out but I already have it, price was right (free) and it will work so I'm gonna use it. Yeah I thought I'd drill a hole or two in the sides near the bottom and run some 3 or 4" fans throught it. After it is all set and I have the flow right I will cover the sides with something, I have read that clear sides are not ideal for trickle filters as they only encourage algae to drow on the media.

David,

Thanks for the reply. I have not heard that about the side of the Bio tower. I plan on building something similar in size, if I can get the stuff that I need to do it with.

Let us know how things go.

Steve

I read that in Hoff's book, the only time I'd ever seen that said but it does make sense. He also suggests as a dirt cheap, opaque wet/ dry just cut the bottoms out of several large styrofoam fish boxes (usually free at lfs) and stack them. That is the kind of thinking I like :D
