I have a dumb question. Is this the Riptide that is supposed to come out, or is that a different one. The reason I ask is because when I do a search for Riptide, all I can find is the Gyer. I though well maybe Riptide was like a preproduction code name for this. Or is it just not out yet. I'm asking because my build is probably 4-6 months from complete and I was really impressed with the videos of the Riptide and don't want to jump on this if something better is coming.

You probably would want to wait until version 2 arrives. The first version of any product will arguably have issues that require remediation.

Yes, Riptide is the name of the product. Gyre is the type of flow it provides.
This may be a pre-production unit or imported from China.
Don't know where the OP is but they are still a couple weeks out from being available here in the US from what I have seen.

Thank you for clearing that up.

I can easily answer your question, this was originally going to be called the Riptide Gyer but Maxspect had copyright issues because the name Riptide was copyrighted to a clothing company who fought against the name.
Hence they are just called Maxspect Gyer now...they are not a Chinese copy I can assure you...new direct from Maxspect...thank.

They had to change it from Riptide to Gyre because of copyright issues.
Ah, gotcha. I hadn't heard that. Real original new name.

Thank you. You are correct. Appreciate your much nicer response than the others above, its seems my excitement on getting this product has now labelled me as some kind fraud who buys Chinese rip offs of products...lol
Wish I was clever enough to rip this off I would be worth a fortune..
thanks
Relax, mate.
It's been available in China already and I assumed in my post that you may not be from the USA and if you were you somehow imported it. No one said anything about ripoffs.
And just FYI, filling out your profile information
<----
would help in the future.

Thank you for answering my question. Can't wait to hear how it works for you!

This seems like it would be a great product for peninsula tanks in particular, where on glass water movers could stand out more.

Interesting product, and I have been following it since it was announced a while back. It is a bit less expensive than, say, an MP40, but a lot more expensive than a Jaebo power head, so quality expectations at the price point it is at are probably going to be high. I hope it works well and stays working well. And I hope Maxspect Customer Service is good as well.

I assume CoralVue will be handling that.

hi. Yes we are hoping it's the one to get for peninsular. We have 7.2 x 2.5 x 2.5 peninsular build on the way. We will try it over the weekend that is not one but is 260g running. 4 x tunze. Hoping one or possibly. 2 of these will do the job.

Haha, close!

The first part is correct, the original name was RipTide but a aquarium company that sells Beta fish products already trademarked the name. Nobody fought against using RipTide, when Maxspect found the name was already trademarked we made offers to purchase the name but were not able to come to an agreement. The name is Gyre flow pump, Maxspect is a Chinese company with the highest standards of quality.

They should have had a naming contest then and the winner gets a free Grye lol.

I vote for the Maxpect "Undertoe"

or the Maxpect "RipCurrent"

I think both of those are better than Grye lol

Correct, CoralVue does all of the sales and support for Maxspect in North America.

Thanks for that. We in Aussie were told it was a clothing co. Nice to know. Thanks
