New Hectaris Magnifica from RHS

I received a H.Magnifica from RHS in very bad conditions. And the nem died.

I send them pictures of the nem and they gave me my money back.

I decided to give them a try and I order a new one from them.

This time the anemone arrived a little bit bleached, but it was better than the old one, and the mouth was close.

The bag was full of water.

I will post pictures everyday.

NICE! i love it. too bad i have no more room....... eversince i downgraded from 180-120, i am kicking myself everytime i see an aewsome nem!

H. Mags are so pretty! I'm going to be getting a 28g with 150w MH-HQI soon. I doubt it would survive in a tank that small, but with weekly feedings would it have a chance? :D

From the pics, looks like you have a healthy anemone.

I would recommend you not putting an H. mag in a 28 gallon tank because of issues maintaining consistently high water quality. You eluded to weekly feedings, I'm not sure what you are asking there, but in my opinion, target feeding of H. magnifica is preferable. Some people don't target feed and let the anemone catch whatever it can and have success. My suggestion would be to wait until you have a larger tank, at least a 40 gallon, and dedicate the tank to H. magnifica. BTW, 150 MH-HQI is fine as long as the anemone is directly under the light.

Waffle: I think the same like gary, 28 gal is not enough to keep these anemones happiness.

Thanks lalo, I will do soon, meanwhile see if you can post some ones of your clowns with your carpet:beer:

I ordered 3 BTA from RHS and one died. The other 2 seem to be doing great! I sent RHS pictures and they were very nice about giving me store credit. I think I'm going to wait a few months and use my store credit when they get a giant GBTA or RBTA in the WYSIWYG section. I'll be looking for something 8"+... BTW, awesome looking H. Mag. I've never kept one, but would one be able to survive in a 28g with 150w MH-HQI? I'm guessing that it isn't such a great idea so I think I'll just stick to BTA! :D

Update

Update

Waffle, I think Orion is keeping one in a tank like your one. Ask him about it. I think the main issue is the fact that they grow so fast. And soon you will need to upgrade your tank.

Update:

It is still in the same spot. It is growing, right now it is about 8".

Yesterday I fed a lot of mysis to the tank , and my clowns fed the mag, maybe to much, and after it ate, It was deflate for about 2 hours, then it returned to normal. I am not sure it was about the food quality , or the quantity.

It is still under window screening but just one layer.
