Hey everyone!

I am new here. I have been in the FW arena for a while, but just started my SW tank. This showed up yesterday after I added a small cleaning crew to my 30 Gallon tank... I can not seem to locate or ID what this is?

(I also think I attached the picture, haha)

Thanks folks!
R,
TRACIE (SaltStorm)

Looks like a flat worm to me...
I'm pretty sure they are an unwanted pest.. but other more knowledgeable people will chime in soon with more/better answers

It is shaped like a clover and moves (very slow) it appears to have a center nucleus... I thought it was an ameoba! Haha

I was going to say flatworm too. Not 100%. Better photo? Also looks vaguely like a snail foot. It just looks to large and "poofy" to me, to be a flatworm

If it is a flatworm, flatworm exit is a quality medication.

Not all flatworms are even very damaging to the reef. I have one species in my tank that (alhough dropping pod pop.) Doesnt actually do anything harmful and makes nice mandarin snacks.

If you do end up using the medication be careful about the flatworm toxin

Hmmm... let me see how to post other pictures. I have a few of them. But the post seems to only allow me one. I will try to get the better pictures up... thank you all so so much!

Better picture... I think

Here is a better picture of what is on the tank glass. It moved overnight about 2/10ths of an in south 😂😂. Anyway, I adjusted the paper and took new pictures. It literally looks like a clover... four circles, but what appears to be a nucleus. Also, I did just add snails... peppermint shrimp and red and blue legged hermit crabs. This is day two with that thing on the glass though...

Thanks again!

Tracie

Yep definitely a flatworm. A big ole guy too. Im fairly certain now (98%lol). Do you have reef or fowlr?
If its Fowlr it may not even matter.
Reef is where it could actually mess stuff up. Id research the acropora eating flatworm and see if it is the same type. Or just treat anyway to be safe (as im sure the majority of reefers here would opt for). As with most pest issues, biological controls are also an option (mandarins and 6 line wrasses have been effective ime).

Another Picture of possible Amphisolops??

Another Picture of possible Amphisolops??

Here is more pictures of this invader! Haha

Are these pictures better? There is only one in the tank. And it is white.. from what I read it isn't bad. Do you think this is an Amphisolops? Or White Flatworm?

Thanks again!

Here is the Whole Tank... it is new.

Here is the Whole Tank... it is new.

Thank you so... its a new tank.

It has live rock, but apparently the LFS removes anything that grows on it and sells it, so not much has happened but what you see. The rocks do have some things hanging on it.. I am not sure what to "œclean up" and what is going to "œbe something" if you have thoughts, I am open :)

This is exciting to have friends here and help with this exciting adventure.

Also, I got two frags, a colored (orange) mushroom and a green ricordea. You can see the GR here but since I put the OM in I never saw it again. Will it show up one day? I have searched the tank and no luck. The green one seems happy until I turned the light on for these pictures and you guys.. lol.

Thank you! :)

I am having so many issues with pictures not uploading. Bare with me... a moment. Thank you! I will add them shortly.

Hi Junebug361

Hi Junebug361

It's 4 weeks, just added cleaning crew on Friday morning and this guy showed up on Saturday.

Good idea to rinse off the cuc in saltwater, swish them around to be sure nothing comes with them.

Flatworms come in many forms, but the forked tail and flat transparent body are indicative. I used to raise little black ones in a lab...

Hi SKTR

Hi SKTR

Thank you! Funny, I just found and started reading so many of your posts! So thank you for taking the time to visit me here and respond.

So I put a few pictures up on my Aquairum page. This is definitely clover looking. I just looked again for the tails you spoke about, I don’t see that, but the white flat transparent body is definitely accurate.

What do you mean by cuc’s? <——never mind, figured it out! Haha Clean Up Crew = CUC!

Thanks again!! :)

Thanks, Sugar! Then it will be ok to leave it. Probably also functions as spare fishfood, but it's not going to hurt the tank.

That particular species of flatworm only eats copepods, I wouldn't worry about it.

^^^what the ladies have said^^^

Although many species are fairly benign, they can quickly rise to plague proportions if left unchecked. Should that occur, your first line of defense is manual removal using a long piece of rigid airline tubing and an even longer piece of regular tubing to make a siphon. When that fails to do the trick, many will jump right to a product like Flatworm Exit (FWE). IMHO, a much better choice is a natural predator. Many of the wrasses love to snack on them. I know that my pair of Blue Star Leopard wrasses did what no amount of FWE could (2 doses a week apart at 2x concentration). They systematically hunted down each and every one of them and are still on the prowl every day looking for more little morsels to eat.

Thank you, Everyone!

Thank you, Everyone!

Thank you everyone!

One of those things was enough for me to remove it. I did just that... I have not seen anything else. The tank has changed considerably since then too!

I really appreciate all of your help! I love reef central!

You are in for one heck of a treat...
My tank is about a year old now.. and strolling through pictures from wheb I started the tank.. to looking at it now.. it has changed soooooo much.. and still amazes me every day..
And I still find new life popping up here and there.. sometimes good... others bad.. matter of fact.. I'll be posting an id question later today on the algae scrubber post...
