New hood

Here is my new hood to accomodate the 3 new luminarc minis. The next thing I need to do is router and round off the edges and then finish it. Will have the finished pics when its all done

The wood I used is a hardwood vaneered ply wood from Home depot $24 buck for a sheet of 3/4 4X8 which is cheap.

The top sections will be on hinges for easy access to the VHOs that are mounted underneath.

Looks like your mounting the minis on top of the hood. Is that to disipate the heat better? Great design and looks clean.

Yeah, I think it will dissipate the heat better plus, this frame will enable me to mount the VHO bulbs closer to the water without having to build another frame.

The whole idea was to make it light/portable/easy access to the bulbs for replacement and easy access to the bottom of the tank. I am going to get some reflective plexiglass to mount at the bottom

I just put on the last coat of paint so it should be ready by Sunday or monday. I couldnt find the same textured paint so I ended up painting it dark blue, when its done I'll let you know.

The paint is taking too much time to dry, so now I have to wait until tomorrow to hook it up ...

The new hood is up and runing, but my freaking auto feeder got stuck in continous mode last night and dumped a whole cup full of food into my tank so my water is very cloudy right now. I did a water change already, but still cloudy so latter I'll do another one and see if that will help. Once the water is cleared up then its ready for show and tell

Thanks bud, its not that bad so far, I siphoned out as much as I could so it is getting better. Their is this autofeeder that can be controller by an aqua jr, so I'll get that one to replace my current feeder.

Yeap love to have you guys over to check it out. What I like about the luminarc is the lower part of the tank gets more lights, and other part of the tank that was darker b4, now is getting more lights too. Over all I think the corals will be more happy becuz am happy :lol:

I put the moon light in the back of the hood now, and when the actinics are one with the moon light, it looks like their is a sun setting in the back gound with a nice purple.orange spot lights, very cool
