new hornet

I think what it comes down to these days is that it has to be a "hornet" if it has an alternating skirt...people don't realize that alot of more common polyps have alternating skirts under good lights...take OPE or RPE they have alternating skirts...yet they don't sell for $100 a polyp. It's all about supply and demand I guess. The seller of these "Yellow Hornets" will do one of two things keep selling them at that price because people keep buying them or he will see people are on to his hype and not touch them.

I thought the OPEs were about 10 times that price at one time. I also remember when Eagle eyes were expensive.

Jarrod your right, they USED to be that expensive but as time passes more peope have them, hype wines down, there becomes more inventory than demand....and other new morphs or polyps are found... prices drop my friend.

Never seen them in person, but I wouldn't be surprized Charles if those last two aren't actually the same zoa under different lighting conditions. I have two morphs that are pretty similar to the copper rings, neither of which has the green shirt - one is more faded brownish blue, the other is a much more blue/purple like the PHZ. JMO

that yellow hornet is nothing specuial IMO, i have a colony like that but dont think it has alt skirts but really if you have to take a macro shot to even see alt skirts who cares?

Ill tell you one thing for sure. If and when the price drops on any of the hornets like charles is perdicting ill be one of the first to start buying. They just add so much to a display. At the same token so do the cheapies like watermelons and eagle eyes that I have a ton of.

it's going to be a while till they do, that is until new MUST have polyp show up in the hobby and replace the hornets as the must haves and supply of all the hornet morphs flood the market more.

I will be the guinea pig for these. They were up on ebay from a seller that I have bought from 5 times before, so I trust the guy. They should be in later this week and I will try and get a good picture of them so we can debate away. Even if they are not a true hornet, I still like them so it is a win/win for me.

May the force be with you Mike

update us i wanna check it out.

Alright, after some delays with shipping I finally got the hawaiin hornet yesterday. The delay was not an issue, the seller wanted to make sure it was healed and ready to go which is something that I will always wait for.

First impressions: Small, the size of a rasta which is going to make it hard to get a pic. It was opening up yesterday but I had a meeting and did not get home until the actinics were on the tank. There is without a doubt a ring around the middle, but I will have to get back to you guys on the alternating skirt. It was not open enough to get a good look.

Update: Had to run home and the zoa was fully open. It does have an alternating skirt of green and the dark red/purple that is the same color as the body. It is not the bright purple as the pic above and the only camera I have is my cell phone. You guys will just have to take my word as of now, but I will do my best to get a picture up.

Just when you thought this was the new hornet, do a search on ebay for the Black hornet, over 100 bucks for a single polyp and still time to go.
