New idea for cards and we need some feedback

Okay so we have had a club member offer to do a pretty good idea for the club on cards. He has a printer that can print them off like a credit card. So it would be a hard plastic card that you can keep and wash and not have to get a new one every year. We would have some metallic stickers made up every year and hand out a stick that would go on the back of the card. These would be a black and white card with our club logo on it. This would make the cards get to people fast because we can hand them out at the meetings as people sign up and we can renew them year after year by just providing a new sticker. Please chime in on what you guys think about this. I think this is better than emailing or mailing the cards we have now. But again we need some input on this guys. So chime in and provide some direction on this.

Sounds good to me! :)

Stickers wouldn't nessicarily need to be metalic - like license plate stickers are a different color each year with the year printed on them.

I think this is a great idea as Im sure like me we have all been know to wash the ol wallet from time to time :)

That would be great! That way people that join (at swaps or meetings) can get instant discounts if they choose to shop on the way home. Do some of the larger reefers from Tennessee do dual memberships..............we may extend our member base that way and draw in new inventory and variety at future swaps with the new member tables are free....

The only reason i suggested metallic was so it would stand up to the washing. Paper would not work, but something like license plate sticker was kinda what i was thinking to. Also not having a personalized membership card cuts down on the amount of administrative task that the board member's have to do. This also makes it a easier process to hand off to someone else and improves the chances of being sustainable year after year.

Could they be made small enough to go on your key ring like the kroger cards and it would always be handy like that? But good idea none the less no matter size.

I like the idea! You could really get carried away with it and add a barcode that AC and others could throw in their system for our discounts.

The concept of a card is great, however the one thing that keeps getting me hung up on this is that this is someones equioment. If we do something like this, we should buy the gear so it stays with the club and commit to spending the money on the supplies like cards and ink. Plus, the sec or treasurer wills till need to take care of getting them out there. I suggest the board investigate the cost and see if it's feasable.

I don't think that would be a bad idea either, but i figured i could run off a couple hundred cards to last us a few years. Just to get us started. Then after this issue is resolved, we can budget to get the equipment purchased.

Here is the first draft.

What do you think about this layout? What other things should be printed on the card? Like tips or common conversion chart?? I was thinking that the stickers could go on the back of the card, leaving plenty of room for many years to be added.

I like this idea a lot..If we had a unique card number on each card that would allow information to at some point in the future be put into a system of catalog either at the stores or with the club..

also I have recently discovered an app on the iphone called "swagg" ..it manages rewards cards..again with a number we could register our card and simply have our phone with the card info on it..

Yea they have the same thing on the android called Key Ring. I use it all the time and love it.

The problem with this is that it adds a lot more complexity to printing the card's and makes the process harder to pass on to other users. I can do barcodes and numbers, but I'm not so sure that other people whom will OWN this process will be able to. Not to mention if you loose your card your going to get a new number and that kinda makes the barcode useless.

Maybe the cards don't get the barcode/Number, but the yearly stickers for renewal does. That way whomever prints those stickers can do that for us.

Unless we have a barcode that is the same for everyone on all cards, then this would be easy to print and implement.

I also think this is a great idea. They do need some sort of unique identifier, though. I don't think it would be best practices to have the entire setup be generic. I like the suggestion CloudIX made, though, with having stickers that have unique IDs on them (at least numbers other than the year).

Also, to purchase our own would be about $1,250 with a quick google search. That's for color. Ribbons are $50 for up to 200 cards. Cards are $50 for 500. This is all Zebra stuff. Just food for thought. It would be nice to be able to print these cards out with names on them.
