New IN WALL 300 gallon build!!

Update: our insurance company has been great throughout this ordeal. They are ripping up the hardwoods Monday and bringing new floor samples as well. Been loud here because they have about 10 huge fans blowing downstairs drying out everything. They also have us 1000 dollars to get started with purchasing items. Bought the same couch and new laptop with the money. At least Black Friday helped us out with that! Thanks again for all the comments and I will be back in touch soon with another update. Hard to believe, but things could be better than before. Also, might be thinking Acrylic for the next tank. Same size. Yay...nay???

sorry about the tank, hate to see this, being an insurance restoration carpenter, I feel for you having to hear fans and dehumidifiers blowing all day and night. I run a 300 glass tank that I purchased from a local company here outside of Detroit, love it, but I cant say that I didn't look at acrylic for a long time first, the cost was a hard pill to swallow though. if you could keep us posted on what glass cages says I would appreciate it, curios as how they treat this

I wouldn't expect much... they make it very clear that not using foam under the tank voids any warranty.

SDGUY, They actually said they will replace the tank for free if I were to get a subregation from our insurance company. Well they said that wasn't going to happen and they were going to go after them for everything they (insurance people) had to pay for. Oh well; lol.

In other "news", in touch with TruVu acrylic aquariums about the same tank. Anyone have any experience with them? Would be about 2700 with shipping and was curious to see if people are familiar with them. Thanks again!

No experience with them but check with James Steele at envision acrylics. He makes amazing tanks!

I had a TruVu 180 back in the 90s and was a very good tank, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another

As far as strength a glass tank doesn't come close to acrylic

Spotter, Thanks for the advice! Will definitely check him out, with hoping that I can afford him. ;)

I just looked at what the price of my tank was that he built earlier this year. My tank is 8x3x2, 3/4" all around with black acrylic back and bottom and it wasnt too much more than the estimate you got from truvu. James has been building tanks for many many years and does amazing work!

Edit....my price did not include shipping though!

Im glad no one was on the couch at the time of the break! And I have to agree with others my wife would never allow me back in the house! :).... Good luck on the future build. Is insurance going to help replace any of the aquarium related loss?

GlassCages is replacing the tank for FREE. Just talked to a supervisor and they have agreed to do so. However, as I will be accepting that tank, I am ordering the exact same tank from TRUVU AQUARIUMS, but in Acrylic. Once I get the glasscages tank, I will be selling it immediately (for very cheap) to offset some of the cost of the Acrylic tank. Will keep updating you as things happen.

P.S. Picked out our new hardwood floors yesterday and they're amazing! Thicker and wider than before along with a better quality! Will be installed next week. :)

Glad everything worked out in your favor!

I would look at redesigning your stand and use Styrofoam under your new acrylic tank as well.

Yea the engineer came by and I will be working with him on designing the new stand. Also, foam will definitely be considered this time. :) The tank will start to be built on Monday, and we're probably not looking until early January until installing it. Updates will keep on coming. Thanks again for all the support!

Wow. So sorry to see this disaster. I think its most hobbiest's worst nightmare!!!

But it sounds like it is all working itself out! Very glad to hear that Glasscages is honoring the tank and building you a second one.
If you don't mind, shoot me a PM in regards to purchasing the GC replacement tank... I may be interested.

Good luck! And definitely lay some Foam down!

check with tru-vu about needing foam underling an acrylic tank. every manufacturer is different when it comes to acrylic. Per the manufacturer of my tank I have 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood glued and screwed to the stand.

SPotter, have already done that and am waiting to hear back! Thanks so much for the suggestion. :) Will continue to keep everyone posted!

So here is an interesting thing I found. I tore down the fish tank today and found that the bottom was 3/4 inch thick glass and the rest was 1/2 inch. Is that normal? Just seems odd to me. Thanks!

Matt

So the new tank is ordered! I decided to go with 3/4 inch acrylic instead of 1/2 inch just to be worry free. TruVu has been great throughout this process and said the tank will be delivered on the 29th. Also, Glasscages has started building another 300 gallon for me and that will be ready in January for pickup. Still selling that so if anyone is interested in a deeply discounted 300 gallon PM me and let me know.
