new kole tang

I have had him about 5 days now and have seen him grazing around the tank i'm also feeding him new era marine grazer and he's been eating fine but he basically lives in my rockwork I see him maybe once a day come out and eat. Why wouldn't he swim around more and be more active? I have plenty of flow in the tank and the 2 clowns and corals are happy.. hmmm

Are the clowns the only other tank mates? He is probable just getting use to its new environment and will come out more often as he get comfortable. Mine goes in and out of the rock work all day long constantly grazing.

5 days isnt very long. I have a blue eye tang, which is in the same family as the kole and it took him a week and half before he would be out when I was in the room. But if I looked in from down the hall I could see him swimming around. Just give him sometime, as soon as he relates you to his food he will be following you around begging for food.

They are very shy. You're lucky you've seen him eating at this point. He'll adjust and probably become the boss of your tank.

They are shy but the best tang for algae control. I think you need more fish that swim in the water column to make the Kole Tang feel safer, such as anthias or chromises.

The tang is a great fish to keep your tank clean and adds some nice colour, however they are not the type of tang to always be out in the open swimming. He should come out more in the future but he will never be a full time open water swimmer

I have 2 in 2 separate tanks both shy. The one I had longer began begging with the others in his tank after about a month. Now comes to the top for pellets & flake. Always shoots out like an arrow to eat other fishes poo poo though.

Wonderful fish, great grazer! I'd echo the sentiment about being a bit cautious - give it a week or so to come around.

So he has gotten more brave i've seen him quite a bit more as of the last couple days. Craziest thing though my sixline wrasse wont stop following him around.. Not nipping at him just following him looking like the kole is his big brother or something they never leave each others side.. It's quite odd
