Do you just have a uv filter on that glass? How far away were you from that coral when you took the pic?

I was about 6" away from the glass, the clove polyp sits about 3" inside the tank..so I guess a total of 9"

I want it sooo bad LOL(the lens)
gasman...the only thing I dont like about the lens is.....you can really see how dirty your tank glass is....:) I thought mine was super clean...looking thru the lens...wow get the scraper out

Sick pic Brian!!!

Here's one I took playing with my brothers Nikon D40 Digital SLR. I think it was the standard lens.

And I don't know cra_p about cameras. He just lent it too me for a bit. Know I want to learn more!!!

Brian, how much do you think a Macro type lens would go for that camera?

Again Killer pic dude, I hope you don't mind as I copied it and sent to my bro just so he can see the type of pics I want to take with his cam of my tank.

Nice photo Lou..:)
On the lens for the Nikon.....I'm kind of new to this Marco shots myself. You may want to ask Jeffbrig...he knows his stuff. I just got my lens last night before the meeting so just been playing around with it today. I'm very happy with the lens I got......took a lot of nice Marco shots today...not saying I mastered it yet. Tomorrow will try some fish shots

Great pic, Brian!

compulou, 3rd party macro lenses (Sigma 90, Tamron 105, etc.) start around $400. I'm not sure of the exact Nikon offerings (I'm a Canon guy), but expect to find a macro lens near 100mm for $500-600.

Best site for quick/easy pricing:
www.bhphoto.com
(there are a lot of camera stores online ready to rip you off, BH photo is NOT one of them)

Okay, I clicked on my own link to take a look, and see a 60mm Nikon AF for $400. If Nikon makes something in the ~100mm range, BH doesn't sell it.

this may seem like a dumb question, but do you have to do anything special to make the space between the polyp tentacles so black? or is that just the natural light?

Ok, I'm officially jealous...lol.
I will be looking for that lens in the near (very near) future.

BTW, Brian, are you glad you got that XTi? I love mine, even though I'm still on page 1 of the manual :)
