New Life Spectrum Ick Shield

What was in this tank?? Rock, sand ect? What was the dosage per mg/g? I would never dose CP with the scoops as the bottle says, it's not accurate at all.Copper isn't known for being great at treating ich, let alone velvet. Sounds like the CP you used was bad. I have seen CP cure velvet in 10 days before so there is no question it works. Carbon doesn't remove CP from the water very well contrary to what people believe, also the med isn't broken down by UV from lights on the tank like was previously thought

Do you dose it at 40-60mg/g as if it were the 99% pure grade from a vet pharmacy?

Yes, I assume that its pure CP (which I have no way of verifying, but have had good luck). I dose at 50-60mg/g for all new fish, rarely at the 40mg/g. The fish act the same whether they are in 40mg or 60mg/g so I error on the higher amount

Another great resource for things CP related is on "the other forum" and started by Humblefish, he and Alprazo are who turned me onto CP years ago and both have had great success (along with me) with it

Thanks. The scoop measures out to about 40mg/l. Would be good to know exactly what's in it and how much and how pure. I would guess very pure as well as it's a reputable company.

It would be nice if they would put the purity on the bottle. Would also like to see batch numbers and purity tests for each batch but I doubt that will ever happen with NLS. There is a place called www.diamondbackdrugs.com
that sells CP they get thru a Canadian Wholesaler, and EVERY batch is tested. If its not 99.5% pure it gets sent back. They can provide a Certificate of Analysis to you. You have to get a Rx from your local Vet, but there is no doubt that the stuff you're getting is pure

Is there anything I should say or reference when speaking with a vet? I'm guessing they don't get many fish patients. I could bring in a bag with a frozen dead fish and say, I believe this to be velvet would you please write a script?

I haven't used them but am planning on using them very soon. I have a Rx from my vet (outdated now) for CP and I told them that I need a Rx for CP because my fish have ich and explained to them that I needed X number of MG for how ever many gallons of water that needed to be treated. He wrote the Rx no questions asked, I got the Rx when I was in there with my dog for something totally unrelated. Monkiboy gave the link, I just wrote what was in that link on here since you can't use a URL link

Not sure if it's 1 gram for $45 or 25 grams for $45 on their site. Way too expensive if it's 1 gram. Do they state or guarantee the purity?

I spoke with them. It is $45 for 25 grams. It's sourced from China. He said it is 100% pure but given that what you get through a vet script isn't that pure I doubt it. I should have asked if they independently test for purity but he didn't offer that info when I asked about the purity, he didn't "sound" confident in his answer and 100% pure and China don't go hand in hand so I doubt it.

On a other note. I was informed that what is in Ick Shield is sourced from China as well. That puts its quality level into question.

Good to know.If I start having problems with it I'll be sure to re post.

So after 10 days of WT, my Naso tang showed little tiny specks, much smaller than I usually associate with crypt. 2 pearlscale butterflies in with him showed no signs of infection. I treated the tank with 40mg/L NLS Ick Shield Powder. The next morning the spots on the fish were big white dots, like classic crypt. I could see the few spots that the butterflies had as well. I found this interesting.

Does anyone know why the difference in visibility? Is a dying trophont more visible due to the fish's immune response? Should we be most worried about the crypt we cannot see? Has anyone seen something similar or is this just happenstance in my tank?

I know this a old thread. Just curious to see if there's any updates to people who have tried and were trying the ick shield powder
