I currently have a 20 gallon reef that was being lit by power compacts. I just got new metal halides for it to replace the pc's. My question is how should i acclimate my corals to the new metal halide setup? What a good technique for light acclimation?
Start the light up high 10+ inches off the surface and decrease the photo period. Lower it by an inch and increase time by half hour or hour once a week or 2 weeks. I'm not aware of any "rule" to acclimating, but you get the picture.
You may also notice an algae bloom with the higher intensity lighting so decreasing the photoperiod will help keep that manageable as well.
