Just gotten into the hobby and was excited to find such an active local group. I live over in Lakeland and plan to get to some meetings as soon as I can. Right now, I have a 55 gal reef tank w/ a mated pair of clowns, an anemone I can't identify, a zebra sailfin tang, and 3 cardinals....right now I'm almost overwhelmed trying to learn the lingo...for example, what is "fragging" and why is it happening at club meetings?

Welcome to the area!

Fragging is a means to share corals. For instance, most stony corals can be fragged by snapping off a branch and supergluing it to a piece of rubble. This frag will then grow into a full colony. Club members frequently bring frags to meetings to trade or auction off.

A couple of months ago the club held a meeting specifically about fragging. The club purchased a large chalice colony and had a large favia donated by a local store. Several members provided colonies of their own. Experienced members from the club showed everyone how each coral is fragged. We had enough frags that everyone who wanted one took one home with them.

Thanks, Matt...I figured it had something to do with sharing "fragments." I look forward to trying to make it to some of the meetings.
