New naokoae and bathyphilus

Added two new fairy wrasses recently.

Cirrhilabrus naokoae and Cirrhislabrus bathyphilus, to my existing collection of C. roseafascia, C. marjorie, C. beauperryi and C. rhomboidalis

Naokoae is common and v cheap in my country, but bathyphilus is becoming exeedingly rare. to reasons which i am still unsure?

we used to see tons of bathyphilus flooding in during vanuatu shipments but in the recent year, there have been no vanuatu shipments and thus, the sudden shortage. very fortunate to find one here after so long.

are bathyphilus common in the US?

i have not seen vry many bathyphilus either..a couple years ago i would see them more like you said out of vanuatu but i have not see very many in quite some time...nice mix there and nice pics

Nice! Have you had problems with the aggressiveness of C. roseafascia? For this species has been a terror.

Bathyphilus used to be cheap here several years ago, and pretty common. Then they got expensive... and really expensive. Less common too. Not sure which happened first though.

ROSEAFASCIA IS LIKE....WHAT THE...!? NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I EXPERIENCED A FISH SO AGGRESSIVE!!

sorry for the caps. but it's like a scott's fairy and pylei hybrid on drugs with an evil streak. it turned my marjorie into a female (granted it was not alpha n e way - the marjorie).

look at the pics of my roseafascia. it's not even half the max size and the tail is barely diamond in shape. yet it's tendancy to KILL is out of this world.

i've removed the roseafascia and keeping it in a separate tank for now until all my fairies get a chance to get used to the tank and build up confidence. then i will re-introduce it and pray.

Very nice selection. I too have been searching for another C, Bathyphilus and have found them to be very scarce. Last one I saw for sale was over $250.00
I had heard that the Naokoae was aggressive, is this true?
Steve, I must be one of the lucky ones in regards to my C. Roseafascia.
He is my largest Fairy, almost 6 inches now and he is one of my more timid wrasses.
My Condei is the worst.

yes naokoae is aggressive too. mine is new so it's not reared it's ugly head yet.

bathyphilus in my country is about 150 US but it's so rare here.

Thank you Lemon, that's what I thought I had read. It's for that reason, I have strayed away from them. Another Fairy I haven't seen for quite awhile is the Nahacky. They have to be one of my favorites and would love to find another pair one day. Do you see them over there?

nahackyi is rare but we've seen a few here. again, from fiji and vanuatu shipments. but i've never personally bought one before.

not many roseafascia keepers in my country. i'm the only one.

one roseafascia in the entire Singapore. in my tank. killing my other fish.

so your photos as well as others from this forum helps keep me and my friends sane hehe

Ok so I love roseafascia but I fear for my other fairys lives what would you guys think of one in a predator tank nothing big enough to eat it whole and if I get a big enough one should be able to hold its own so what ya think?

well from my experience, my roseafascia is fearless. not afraid of anything, including fish bigger than it is.

i have marginalis and declivis butterflies which are bigger. although not intimidating and predatory, they do get pretty greedy and pushy during feedings. the roseafascia totally ignores everything except my other fairy wrasses.

it leaves my marjorie alone. the marjorie was added as the first so maybe that's why. but the roseafascia's dominating presence is enough to turn my marjorie into a female.

i added a condei and the roseafascia killed it in 5 mins flat.

Current wrasses fo r this combo would be a lunar ( most passive lunar I have ever seen amazing really never bothers anyhting despite being almost 9") and a formosa almost as docile as the lunar.

lunare and formosa are tough cookies.

besides my roseafascia only bothers other cirrhilabrus (fairy wrasse).
moreover the lunar and formosa are already established residents. no way are they going to take nonsense from your future roseafascia.

ohh. sorry, read it the wrong way.

the roseafascia initially will be very timid but with time will become an absolute terror. that said, yours might very well end up like bradley's one and remain a complete angel.
