one of my hawkfish has something at the corner of his mouth. it looks very much like a piece of mysis (which they had last night and this morning). i don't know what else it could be but i put this here to see if anybody has any ideas. :)

he's eating fine, acting completely normal. and yes, he can close his mouth.

thanks, chris. that's one of the articles i found this morning. i may be able to net this guy after dark. even if i can, it's my understanding that this parasite attaches with teeth? what is the likelihood of getting the whole thing if i try with tweezers and if i leave any behind, what effect will that have on the fish?

leave it to ME to have something so obscure show up!!!

Theres a guy with a clown fish in the "reef fish" section with a cirolanid on his clown. He recently posted it up.

I had an episode of this years ago with live rock i had from Indonesia. Man those things would zip around the tank whenever I dropped food into the tank! They give me the chills!!!!

i couldn't find the thread about the clownfish.

i dunno...i looked at tons of pics of these things and honestly, i don't know if that is really what this is. i have not added anything to my tank in months and even then, not until it was through qt.

this looks very much like a piece of mysis. it isn't "hard" looking, it sways when he swims. guess i'll just have to watch it and see what happens.

Hi Nina, here it is:

thanks for the link. i sure wonder where it came from since i've never seen anything like it in my tank (and i do lots of hunting at night with a red beam) and nothing new has been added in months.

I have nothing substantive to add, but in return for your recognition of my snark on another thread, here's hoping that what is actually going on is that your fish lacks table manners.

well, i'm pretty sure it's a male so yeah, lack of table manners is a distinct possibility!

you got snarky? did i get snarky back? ;)

I'm looking at your picture and my first thought was ..... Fish needs some dental floss :) completely unhelpful, I know, but at least mildly amusing (well, to me at least).

No, lol. I was responding to a stupid complaint about snorvich's ich sticky (hey! that's kind of fun to say) and said I thought RC was overpaying him. You pointed out for the OP's benefit that I wasn't serious.

LOL simon!

oh yeah, i remember that. it always amuses me when i see somebody new blast a seasoned reefer like steve. if they only knew...

Man, I've seen Isopods in the wild and they clearly look the part. Nasty looking creatures. I pulled one off of the tongue of a grunt to do him the favor. Gave me chills. Lol.
Your pic seems to me like just some food left over. I'd especially believe it since you just fed them mysis and follow QT practices.

it's still there as of yesterday but it's smaller than it was when i first noticed it. he's eating fine and acting normal so i'm not stressing. :)

and yeah, i googled it and you're right. some of the nastiest looking things i have ever seen!
