New pair of chrysopterus

WDLV

Skunk Hybrid Freak
I picked these guys up from the LFS last night. I've been watching them for about a week. I saw no disease or odd behavior so I pulled the trigger.
They're in hyposaline quarrantine ATM and seem to be adjusting normally.
Sorry for the shoddy pic. It was taken with the cell.

Very nice Walt, I love the yellow tails. Are these part of any project you may be working on?

Sweet fish! You guys in the DC/Baltimore area seem to get a pretty good selection of clowns. How many species do you currently have in your tanks now?

i think thats a reflection of the side of the tank. notice the tile continues, and there are 4 fish- all in same positions= reflection

No. Not this time around. I just liked them.

I've just reduced it down to five species... thiellei, barberi, leucokranos, melanopus and chrysopterus.

The pair I had most recently died after about 13 months in my care. The male died for unknown reasons. I was transferring the female to a new system and got distracted by child care issues while the bag was left floating. When I returned to finish the acclimation a few hours later, she was dead of suffocation.
I preserved them in ETOH so that a necropsy can be done by a trained veterinarian. I suspect possible gill flukes.

Do you breed the barberi clowns WDLV? I can't find these anywhere for sale aside from LA wild caught. BTW, LA claims they only get to 3.5" which is quite a lot smaller than most in the tomato complex, have you found this sizing accurate?

That sucks big time! Are you planinng to get another pair?
Not any time soon.

My female is about 3.5"... and no I do not breed them. I would not be surprised to hear that others are selling them as tomatos. I would also not be surprised to hear that they are really just another naturally occuring hybrid.

BTW the chrysopterus are doing well. The male is out more and they are both eating well.
