New powerhead hitting the market

Not sure if this is considered a power head but definitely looks pretty cool.

Riptide Gyre Generator

Next Generation of Water Moving Technology
The Maxspect Riptide is the world's first "Gyre-Generator". Compared to traditional powerheads and wavemakers that are based on propeller nozzle flow technology, the Maxspect Riptide is based on advanced crossflow technology which produces massive horizontal water movement leaving little to no deadspots.

Looks like a cool idea. Something tells me it won't be cheap, though.

It does look pretty cool. I can't wait to see some videos and more specs on sizing.

I agree the cost will probably be high but most new tech that works well is.

R&D costs money. These things don't invent themselves. My cynical side says Jaebo is probably already working on a knock off.

Doesn't really matter to me how well it works or how much it is. Based on aesthetics alone I certainly wont be trading in my MPs. Neat idea and I'm sure it will sell but I will not be buying.

What part of the aesthetics turn you off? I prefer the wire outside the tank but the profile on the riptide appears a lot less intrusive than the mp's especially compared to my mp60.

It's looks huge and unnatural. It's like putting a heater in the display. Just does not appeal to me.

I am sure if first power heads looked like this and now they would've came out with the current usual design it would look just as huge and unnatural :)

Would be interesting to see what kind of flow these things get. Looks like power head industry stealing another design from ships :)

You know it!:D

Just to be clear, Tech, I don't see it as a positive. How long do you think innovators will continue to innovate when all their best stuff is stolen by overseas companies that aren't subject to patent laws and generally just doing the right thing?

I have to agree with you, but is our lack of protection that we have. Also we live in a global market, so companies have to have the tools to compete, not just to be protected for their own benefit and not the benefit of the users, this make the competition more fair, also have to control a fair market so it wont become a monopoly, is a double edge razor, IMO

I honestly think innovators will continue to innovate. All the best of everything has been stolen for all of time. I hate the intellectual property theft however I feel it does keep the prices in check to a "point".
