I have been waiting on a healthy Gigantea for soooo long, and finally I have found one!

Here she is, ~1 hour after acclimation with the flash:

She's about 10" and beauuuuutiful!

Here she is the next day, excuse the dirty glass :o.

Sweet, looks real similar to one on our local site, but that guy has a rep to keep up, I'm sure he'd never let his glass get that dirty!LOL
Keep pics coming!

Ooh, purdy. :) Good luck! Post more pictures when you get a chance please!

Sure seems like these have really become available as of late. I wonder where this stash of carpets are coming from. :)

Hmm, should have known a Gigantea would give me problems!

Well, after realizing that 2x K1s would not be enough flow for her, I purchased 2 modded 6025 Tunze nanostreams. I put one pointing directly at her, and after coming home a couple hours later and seeing this I realized that was a mistake...

I turned the powerhead away from her so she was getting more indirect flow, and that seemed to make her happy. But then today, about half way through the day she is in the same shape and has stayed like that up to now. It is very hot today in San Diego, and my tank is at 83 degrees, and that may have something to do with it, but other than that I am stumped. Can anyone offer any help?

Anyways, here's a picture of her after moving the powerhead away yesterday.

I wouldn't worry to much about temp. For the past eight months i have been keeping my gigantea on a daily 82-87 swing:eek2: All good so far.

I wish I could offer some advice besides use good surging flow, strong light, and keep your fingers crossed. My guess is that less than 10% of these guys survive in captivity .... and i believe that it is all about luck in getting a healthy specimen. Good luck!

My nems prefer indirect flow, tents gently moving.
Yours being new(I've read somewhere that a nem can take a week or more to expel all water from original location) is still very much acclimating, and hitting it w/ those PH's probably just irritated it more.(modded tunze 6025's are like 1,100gph+)
Try not to change things and leave it alone as much as possible while it adjusts to your tank.
FWIW that last pic still looks OK

Indirect flow, not blasting, and leave it alone for a few days may be best advice for now as long as params are good.
It takes a while to acclimate, especially after being shipped.
In a few days maybe try to feed something small.

I find surging flow to be really key with this species. We hear again and again "flow and more flow and even more flow and more flow and did I mention more flow?", but I've found that steady-state flow is not really appreciated the ones I keep - the flow needs to alternate directions and intensities. Whoosh, pause, whoosh, pause, woosh. FWIW. Good luck.

So a tunze wave box would be a good thing to have for these anemones? Just curious:) the whoosh pause  thing sounds exactly what my wave box does.

Nice gigantea by the way. :) How is it doing now?

Nano Wavebox

Nano Wavebox

In December i plan on moving my gignatea from a 30 breeder to 40 breeder.

Tunze is coming out with a nano wave box that i think will replicate the whoosh pause effect.

I love breeder tanks for gignatea, wide food print and low. i have a 5 bulb aquatinics on top of it and the anemone has never looked better.

The short side of the tank is against the wall, the gignatea set up shop right smack dab in the middle of the tank. I have three nano koralias on this side, one pointing up for surface movement and the other two criss crossing above the top of the gigantea. The flow in the tank is like wave coming over the top of the anemone. The outer disk of mine will get forced up by the flow which seems to be what they like.

When i switch to the 40 im hoping to get the new tunze nano wave box. These anemones are gorgeous but once again some people are having problems keeping them healthy. The purple base gigantea was looking good and then got worse. Tossed it before it affected my established one.
