helllo all, and thank you for your comments.

there is an aemone crab aka porcelain crab hosting IN the anemone. yes. they are filter feeders its pretty easy to see

theres a anemone shrimp that also hosts

the crab I was talking about being 'cradled' is a scarlet hermit. you can see him in the pics. I was not referring to the porcelain crab.

the anemone happily grabbed food today! I feel much better. more updates soon :)

Whoa...already e-mailing Karen! Haha... Love her site. Anyway, I wouldn't worry so much about the anemone. It's new and still getting used to the tank. Mine did strange things for a couple of weeks before it was finally happy. I was convinced it was going to die several times! It also wouldn't eat for several days after I got it, but now it's nice and healthy!

I actually started emailing karen because she started a screen name on another forum site and I was excited to see her there, but for some reason she couldnt accept pms so I shot her an email to say hello and welcome to the site.

In the interim I got the RBTA and just asked her a few questions. I also told her when he outgrows my tank that Id send him to her sanctuary lol :)

Dont worry I didnt contact her in a frenzy!

The anemone grabbed food willingly last night: both mysis and a section of silverside. He is looking great and bubbly. I feel much better now. I just want to give him a good home.

My tank is 15-16months in, and I feel comfortable but, you know- Im a corals type of gal :)

Thanks for help all

ok I think Im going crazy?

I came home today and the nem looks crappy, kinda deflated etc. I can see 5 or so tiny little 'tentacles' floating across the sand bed like something 'snipped' them off the nem. Is my anemone crab or shrimp doing this? If so ... back to the LFS they go!

I offered two pieces of thawed raw shrimp. Slowly.. he ate them.. then about 30 mins later regurged them back up !?!

Any suggestions from BTA veterans?

Jess

Oh that's cool that you found Karen on another site. And I was just kidding! E-mail away! Better safe than sorry!

I did watch my anemone crab eat one of my RBTA's tentacles once, but the anemone is so big I didn't think it was that much of a problem. I've read that red leg hermits will eat condy's, but I don't know if they'll go after BTA's too. I have a few red legs with mine and I don't think they mess with it.

Keep an eye on it next time you feed. Mine did the same thing, expelled mostly undigested food, when I first got it, but it's fine now. Your anemone is probably still getting used to its new home.

yeah, Im hoping its just an acclimation issue.

He looks great again today, but not responsive to food.. grr!

We shall see Ill post if anything happens :)

thanks for help

hello all, I just wanted to post some new pics of the RBTA. He is doing great and taking food much more aggressively. I think his oral disk is a little lighter than Id like so I have been juicing his meals with zoe.

I had a little issue with him detaching, but I rearranged the flow and he seems happy

enjoy:)

You might want to remove the anemone crab. Mine turned on my RBTA. Now most of the tentacles look all messed up from the crab nibbling on them. I can see one or two tentacles in your pictures that look like they've been chewed on and the up close picture of the crab looks like you caught it in the act. Keep a close eye on it and if you notice the tentacles getting shorter on one side remove the crab. I wish I had removed mine earlier, cause my anemone looks kinda pathetic now. :(

you know what.. I noticed a area where the polyps are shorter on the outer rim of the anemone.. just like one section.. OMG its the anemone crab!?!?! would the polyps look chewed up? mine look smooth/normal just stubby :(

Jess

Some of mine look stubby and others look ragged and disfigured, and it was mainly on one side. You can see some white stings and dark lines in some of mine where he tore it holding on with his legs. I think the anemone crab's "feet" are just too sharp for the anemone and sometimes tear it. I didn't figure out what was going on until I found him in the middle of the anemone eating a tentacle. You had to look real close to even see what he was doing. Hope yours isn't doing the same!

Is the anemone shrimp being a problem too? I haven't had any experience with that kind, just Peterson's cleaner shrimp who host condys. He's in his own tank right now with the anemone crab, cause I gave my condy's to a friend who had a big tomato clown who I'm sure would be more than happy to make him into a nice snack!

well, you know how the anemone shrimp is clear? when he eats a little bubble (assuming its his stomach) appears inside him.. and its easy to see whatever he ate..

I noticed that instead of there being a mysis shrimp or something.. there was a round pinkish ball that tooo closely resembled my anemone so now..

both the nem crab and nem shrimp are netted in isolation, I need to take them to my LFS

Jess

ok so in the past 24 hours my nem has begun to shrivel and his mouth is gaping. He will not anchor to the rock/substrate.

I put him in one of those suction/soapdish things so I can watch him closely ... but What the HECK!!??

Hes in a 24g AP with 150w MH 14K new bulb(not faded etc). the reef has been running 16mos. I cant figure this out. Everything else looks great. He does still have color but it looks washed out to me..

I guess time will tell :(:(
