New Salifert Test Kits ...

I just received some new Alk , Cal and Mag Salifert test kits. They have new instructions with pictures ect..
My older almost empty kits that all have well over1-2 years left to expire.
Alk- Old same as New
Mag Old 1450 new 1600
Calcium old 450, New- there had been a change from 8 drops to now 10 c-2 and I cant for the life of me tell where the color is changing. So bad, I ordered the Red sea and will toss this kit.
Salifert.com offers no support in any way or email on their website.
Too bad for them. Looks like Im going to have to switch to redsea unless Habib make it right but no way to get ahold of anyone.

I just picked up the new nitrate kit, didn't bother with the calcium kit. The nitrate kit has a new color card but seems the same, never had any problems with it before.
 
I always thought that the calc and mag kits were easy to see the color change, the mag test especially. So the calcium kit is a lot different now? I don't test calc often as I dose 2 part and just measure alk often with the Hanna checker.
 
I noticed the change last time I got the calcium kit. I honestly hadn't looked at the instructions in a long time and thought I might have been doing it wrong all this time. :eek:

Color change was the same as the old kit though, least for me. New mag kit I haven't opened yet. I might have to go look.
 
If you have the new Calcium kit with the fancier instructions. How many drops are you putting in of the C-2 ? The old kit was 8 the new 10.

I got a new style kit this afternoon. I'm using 10 drops, per the instructions (thanks for the heads up there - I never would have read them otherwise).

I'm measuring 430 with the old and new test kits. Not really noticing a huge difference in the color change. Maybe a little?

Are you saying the colors change is fast like the older style did?
Maybe so got a bad kit
 
Maybe I got a bad kit. Mine change ever so slightly that I cant tell where it changed.
I’ll try a heaping spoon of powder and see if that helps.
 
I know this is an old thread, but I have a similar question that was brought up here. I have a 18 year old FOWLR 180 gallon that has been on cruise control for many years. It has always looked pretty good and the fish do fine, so I haven't been testing the water parameters much. I don't do many water changes (maybe one or two a year), and I don't really add anything to the water (I know, I'm probably a poster child for how not to take care of a fish tank). But I recently decided to up my game and start taking better care of it. So I bought some Salifert test kits among other things. I just tested calcium levels, and added the entire 1.0 ml of CA-3, and there was on color change. So apparently my calcium is greater than 500 ppm? Does this sound reasonable for a tank that hasn't any specific calcium supplements? Note that I did do two 20% water changes in the past 2 months. And I added 10 drops of CA-2 per the Salifert instructions in the kit (as opposed to the 8 drops that were apparently used in the older kits).

It's definitely possible if there are no calcifying corals or coralline algae.

Thank you for the reply! Yes, no calcifying corals and no coralline algae. Should I be worried about the high calcium levels? Is there something I should be doing to lower them?
