New Tank Build Thread!! 46 Gallon Bow

LMAO...I threw that out of the window as you can see!! I sold it as the more I spend now the less I spend later. It worked!! That and a 3 day weekend for the wife away from me and the kids at the beach.

I love the Marco Rock. I put like 4-5 pieces of live rock in it and used Bio-Sphere to speed up the cycle. As you can see from how stocked my tank is after a month, I had a very short cycle..only 3 days.

lol just kidding man :) . That would have went out the window for me to.I tell my gf hey atleast i have a hobby and im not at the bar all the time :) ! Im gona upgrade my 10 gallon nano (2 years old now) to a 20 gallon high , do you think i can add some macro rocks and avoid a mini cycle or do you think it would cause a cycle again? Did you notice any dead sea life on them did you have to scrub them off or anything im curious about these things now. btw i love that jeremys digi i want that thing!

You should see the Jeremy's digi now, the polyps are so thick you can't even see the skeleton! It glows under regular lights and actinics. Awesome piece.

Not sure about the cycle thing, I doubt it though. I did not scrub my rocks and started fresh. Personally I think you'll be fine. I didn't notice any dead sea life but it couldn't hurt to give them a good scrub.

Do you have any full shots of your sump i'm planning on running a 20l with a SWC160 when i upgrade to a 40br this summer and wanted to see how much room you had with it?

well you sold me on the digi im gona put in a order and get some red mili, blue mili, and ill add in the digi its great. I think im going to get some of the rocks as well. how many pounds did you put in your tank? is it very light and porous or heavy and dense? is it just texas holey rock/limestone or is it rock that really used to be in the ocean on a reef like the normal liverock? when are you gona post some more pics :) !

NO full shots..only what is on the first page of this thread. Tough fit under the tank to get a better shot. I'll see what I can do tonight. I can tell you that room wise you are fine. My 160 fits right in the middle of the 20L perfectly. I'll measure the baffle distance to give you an idea since obviously mine was DIY. That skimmer rocks though. It pulls some serious gunk from the tank.

If you don't have it get the Ora Red Planet...what a fast grower and beutiful piece. That digi will look awesome too. My tank has 50lbs of the Marco rock and about 20lbs of live rock. It's pretty light and porous. You can see on the first page when I have it all out on the table that you get a good amount of pieces in the 50lb package. I requested larger pieces though. They will cherry pick for you. The rock used to be in the ocean off the keys.

I took the GFO out of the reactor 3 days ago to grow some algae for my Flame angel and clean up crew to pick on. Within 3 days the Marco rock has taken on a nice green color instead of white so it is looking more natural. Pretty soon that green will turn purple. No nuisance algae ever in the tank..knock on wood. It's amazing how effective that GFO is. I do run ROX carbon 24/7. I'll set some pics up tonight!

Thanks that would be great. Do you have a fuge in yours? I was thinking of setting mine up with the overflow/skimersection then the return in the middle and a fuge on the right

The guy I got it from had a Fuge in his but I am not running it with one. I have a 6inch section for the overflow. I keep my Carbon/GFO reactor pump in their and use a filter sock to cut down on bubbles. The middle is roughly 12 inches and just has the skimmer..then I have 2 baffles and the rest of the 20L is for the return pump only. I have room there to add another reactor pump or a UV or something down the road if needed. I use the filter blocks heavy to keep 0 microbubbles in my tank...it's a pet peeve of mine. The upkeep on the filter sock and sponges is a pain but worth it IMO. So, you could do it that way, I just like having more room for other pumps and stuff. It will be tight though but very feasible

Here's a few shots I took tonight before I started my ATI project.

I love it! I got it hanging..I just need to get my ecosmart driver back up and orgainze the back wall. I'm starting it high then will lower it as the weeks go by.

Thanks for the pics of the sump, it looks like ill have plenty of room with that skimmer. BTW the tank looks great cant wait to see all those frags grown out!

jhoff- Thanks for the recomendation..I would have waited on the TEK Elite if you havn't posted.

fishsus- Thanks and good luck

Your welcome.I think you would have been disappointed with the Elite anyway. The ATI is a much better fixture.I can't wait I will be going SPS shopping next week.

Let me know what you get!

I went on tuesday picked up some real nice frags..At a local reef shop here in Jersey.

1. bret's purple rim monti cap.
1. screaming red monti cap.
1. strawberry short cake acro.

I will post some pics later. I have a real old school kodak digital cam. It take's lousy pics. There is no settings on it so what you see is not what u get...

What do you think about the Sunpower?

You're gonna have to post some pics...I can change this thread to the 46 Gallon Bow thread!

The sunpower is causing me some problems. I had it 5 inches over the tank and on the 3rd day my monti's felt the heat and retracted all polyps. So I raised, didn't work, then last night i raised it to 9 inches and tonight things look better. The acros love it, but the montis need more time to adjust. I didn't realize how much more light this fixture actually put out.

O well i did get one pic in b4 the lights went out one of the monti caps. Will get some more up later.
I think a 46 gallon bow thread would be great.Yes these fixtures are very powerful if your not careful with coral placement you could bleach your corals mine is about 9" also. So far no problems with the new corals..
