New Tank Build Thread!! 46 Gallon Bow

It doesn't matter what you get first because you need it all to get your system going... generally people set up the plumbing first then the electrical then hardware (the sump is part of the plumbing in my mind.)

ncny is bama hijacking your thread? he looks new maybe he needs to start his own? I don't care... if you want his build with yours it's up to you.

sorry it was not my intent..i will certainly start my own. Thanks!

He's right, you do need it all. I didn't set my tank up until I had everything, then upgraded things along the way.

It is sort of a hijack but I don't mind the question...We're all here to learn, but your own thread would be good Bama. Or if you have specific questions about the 46 Bow setup just PM me.

Some Updates...I've added some more coral and lost a few LPS. All my SPS are thriving though.

I hope...I've done a lot reading on placement and the plan was for them to grow together as I've seen on tons of other tanks and on my previous 2 tanks that were much larger by comparison. We'll see how they grow in. I'm getting great growth so far. They are more spaced out then they look in the pictures.

Same Loripes 8 days ago when it was first put in my tank. Actual color is lighter then it looks above but it colored up really nice compared to this photo

Nice pics... did you get a new camera? The quality of the pictures looks much improved. (also I'm envious of all the corals you have... even in my large tank I don't thing I will have that many)

nice start, you might want to slow down in purchasing corals. Cause when those bad boys begin to grow and spread out it's gonna be tight in there.

Same Camera, but I sort of figured out how to set the white balance. Not perfect yet but it's getting there. I have a pretty good local hook up for coral

I don't think I should slow down...I think I should stop! I have about every spot I want filled..believe it or not it was planned out. I get great growth in my tanks and plan on trimming so it all flows nicely one grown in...we'll see how it works out

Did you have to remove your flame angel? I don't see it in the last few pictures. Was it niping on your corals?

I did not remove him although I've been trying. He hides in the rockwork mostly now due to all my attempts at catching him. He is a seriouos nipper. Nips at the SPS. This is basically a coral tank even though I have 7 fish in there.

Flame Angel - Gonna use a trap to get him soon
Hippo Tang
2 False Percs
Blue Mandarin - Had him since April..put him in a week after I started this tank. He's doing great
Black Blenny
Indigo Dottyback

For the most part the blenny and dottyback stay hidden in the rocks. The mandarin comes out a lot but can be tough to see

So here's a lesson I learned the hard way. Yesterday afternoon I decided to change out the pads on my Pirana glass cleaner. Instead of going to the store and getting adhesive remover I decided to remove the pads with a steak knife. I'm getting it off, I'm about halfway and decide to push harder. The knife cuts through the pad and goes right through my thumb! Literally in one side and out the other. It hit the bone but went though to the left of it. As my wife and 3 small children watch I pull the knife out of my finger and like a scene from a horror movie blood is squirting roughly 3-4 feet. It was the coolest thing, I've gotten into tons of fights and had a bone in my leg and fingers pop out...but never seen anything like this. Instead of stopping and taking care of it I point it at my wife and shoot blood everywhere. After about 20 seconds of that I wrapped it up with a paper towel and duct tape. I had to lose a lot of blood because it was all over the kitchen and my arm. Just so happens that while it was shooting blood a fellow reefer kncokced on my door and came in. He didn't realize what he was walking into..he just wanted to pick up some stuff I was selling him! Last night I took the makeshift bandage off and it was still bleeding a little..flesh was pulled out from inside my finger and is now on the outside..i put some bacitracin and hydrogen peroxide on it and let it breath all night.

So moral is...if instructions say use adhesive remover on something..you might want to do it!!

SO here's some sucky pics. I can't figure out this camera for anything

The colors are not a good representation of what the tank looks like. Can't seem to get the white balance right

Have to throw in a couple of my other hobby :eek1:
