New tank build!

made some changes in the last couple of months, because no3 continued to rise despite numerious efforts to control....removed the Aqua Medic Denitrator, as it proved to be junk, and converted it to a sulfur denitrator controlled by my ORP meter. after about 2 months it's working very well, producing nearly 12 gallons of nitrate free water per day.

i have it running at an ORP of -225, which gives me completly clear effluent on a Salfert NO3 test. the DT runs about 1ppm no3 with 21 well fed fish...

also i added an auto water change system. A Stenner pump and a 300 g salt water vat controlled with my Aquacontroller that does 12, one gallon water changes at night (total 12 g daily water change).

no3 is now maintained @ 1ppm with little effort and minimal shock to the system.

Long overdue update, last 6 months tank has preformed how I hoped. Parameters are stable; corals and fish doing well. I stopped using vinegar dosing several months ago and NO3 went lower??? I believe it was due to po4 limiting? Parameters have been stable for months: no3 @ .05; po4 @ <.015; alk, cal, etc good. I have reduced water changes to about 10 gallons a day and once a month detritus removal and with the Sulfur Denitrator working well, nutrients are no longer an issue. Still using GAC, and GFO is not needed. IMO, po4 was being stripped too aggressively, causing corals to slowly starve, and denitrifying bacteria to limit no3 uptake. Interesting that since stopping vinegar and no3 going lower, I have more algae growth on the glass and in the fug; and a few spots of cyano. Pics coming soon!

Nice tank, including Xenia. On the taller bare rocks without Xenia on them have you considered trying LPS say Hammer or Frogspawn? Something branching? That is what I have in my 40 and seems to blend in well.

Nice tank though - I like it. I'm going a bit smaller I think with 54" wide 36" tall and 30" Deep tank. Like what you have though!
