There are a million threads on here dealing with cyano and I've read all of them. My conclusion is that no one really knows what causes it . I think all the things you mentioned above plus phosphate control and other factors can I]influence[/I] it, but are generally not the root cause. Like they said in Jurrasic Park "life finds a way".My tank is new, so I expect its some sort of cycle . Maybe a lot of nutrient got released from my old live rock when I transfered it from the previous tank. Maybe the cyano loves the natural sunlight it gets in there. At any rate, I will wait a little longer (but not much) and then treat it.
