New to RC

Just wanted to introduce myself since I am new to reef central. I have been a member of CDMAS.org for sometime now and look forward to contributing and learning from everyone. Currently have two 90 gallon tanks and one 150 gallon tank. I have downsized my fresh water tanks to only one and have been into saltwater for about three years now. I have lots of experience with the downstate stores (Dutchess, Westchester, NYC, some of southern CT, and Albany stores so if anyone has any questions, please ask away.

Welcome to the forum. You'll find some pretty knowledgeable people here. Since you mentioned NYC, do you know of any good stores around the Times Square, MSG, Jacob Javits area? I go on business there a couple times a year.

Best place in Manhattan would be New World Aquarium on 2nd and 38th Street. Small place but unique stuff. They ship from several places around the world.

Most of the stores in China down are for these super $ flower horns fresh water fish. The best place is new world that I found. There are a few in Queens but I have not been to them.

Do your reef tanks all have different themes or are they all housing a mix of stuff and accumulated based on need for more space? :D

Oh... and we love pics. If you haven't tried posting any here yet I've found it's easiest to upload them to a free photobucket.com account and then just copy and paste the IMG code they give you for your pic. ;)

I do use photobucket, it works good for the threads. I mostly have LPS corals. I am into Wells and Torches/Frog Spawns/ Hammers. I will get some photos up soon. I have been starting to expand on my paly's and zoo of recent. Hope to swap some frags soon with RC members. Only a few fish for now.....large sohal and unicorn tank with the standard clown and few other tangs.

Thanks

There's a pretty big swap coming up in Rochester NY on June 7th. Shouldn't be too long of a drive for you.

Welcome aboard Kent,
I too am going to be in Manhattan in a couple weeks for a trade show at Javitts. Last year we visited New World and did indeed see some unique items. Overall though, I was horribly disappointed. It's NYC for God's sake. There has to be better. Someone chime in here PLEASE!

well in terms of quality and quantity in NYC, your right....not much. In Greenwich, CT there is a real nice place called House of Fins but bring your wallet. Very much worth the trip. In Weschester there is place in Elmsford, NY called Sharks I and Sharks II. One store is fresh water and the other is across the street that is salt water. Bring cash because he only takes cash. In Ductchess there is place called Fishtopia in Fishkill,NY. Lots of saltwater stuff and I mostly bought from him for price and selection. These are the three best places north of NYC. On Long Island I have not been to many places but I am sure there are a few. There was on big place that I can't remember that does alot of online sales. He mostly has fish but it is a warehouse-like place.

Thanks for the plug Randy! Kent, it would be great if you could make it to our meet here at the museum. Great destination if you have kids, too. Welcome to the boards!

Cheers,
Tad

Yup, Tom does a great job with periodic cleaning and maintenance, I do most of the daily maintenance. Lot of work for a tank that size but definately worth it. Hope you can make it!

Cheers,
