New to Tampa Bay Reef Club and looking for a local store!

Hey triggerfish1976, Putting a Nano in the kitchen - oh man that was funny. I'm sure it wasn't funny at the time, but you have to laugh now (Hopefully :cool:. I think we should start a thread of the crazy things we've done - we would be rolling! I know I have a few and I have a feeling a few more are on its way. Of course they are only funny if nothing but our pride got hurt :D.
 
I have a 24 gallon and I canged out the stock pump to 2 mj -900's and my tank has been staying nicely at 77.7 to 78 I dont know if they run cooler or something but heat has been good to me so far. I also changed around the lights so the fans came on with the ancinic(I know I can spell) lol I also drilled new holes in the back and added another nozzel and used bulkheads and a nice spray nozzels split 2 ways each. Seems to do the trick so far. :)
 
Oh i was not aware that chris meckley wasnt an owner anymore thats really unfortunate, i loved that guy, may i ask whos the owner now? if im under the right understanding rican is stuck on caps because he responds at work most fo the time, so if he cant help it then theres not much we can blame him for, lets try and keep this civilized lol.

Edit: Yeah, books definetly suck, it's not like tuition wasn't expesive as is.

reefartist: i could be absolutely wrong, cause sometimes i definetly am, but i just felt like the thread was waiting to become a flame thread.

Why do you only promote FINZ? Are they your buds, do you get a kick back or discounts. Have you really had an out of body experience there with customer service?

Then I went back because a couple of good things things that were said about FINZ. I was so P@##ED OFF at myself for even wasting my time, MOs do not change!!! Same dirty tanks same customer service and J3838 I know of the girl your speaking of. Pricing was not labeled and I asked for a price on the same item (livestock) and it was different from the week before. If anything you are hurting there business, from what I have read more negs come out than pos.

Ok, I said what I had to say now you can all flame me

Thank you Hawk'ster - I really thought it was just me. I did the same as you, heard some good and thought I'd check it out. What a waste of gas money. I couldn't tell what was for sale because nothing was labeled. Was that the display tank or is that what they are trying to sale? The tanks were dirty as was the place - sorry but I said it also!

i guess now that ithink about it he always does talk quite highly of Finz. I havn't been in that store since....october if not august/september. And i do remember a few people who worked there, (notwilling to share names) always thanked me for posting good things on reefcentral about them, but i never did it for favoritism or discounts of any kind. I'm almost tempted to step into their store now just to see whatevery ones talking about. Personally the prices are what drove me away.
 
gimplar save your gas money lol.ive been there and wasnt impressed in the least.if you want some nice stuff head over to sea in the city in O-town.once my 90 is ready,FAIOS and SITC will be seeing alot of me.
 
thanks for the quick posts everyone... well im sad to hear that my experience at Finz was not a one time mishap (since its sooo damn close) lol... but im glad to hear there are some good alternatives.... does anyone have the exact address of the store called fish and other itchy stuff? lol? Im lookin forward to getting some time off class and work and shoot over to some of these stores!!
 
checkinhawk...I too will be visiting SITC in Orlando for some quality corals. I head that way to visit Bass Pro Shops regularly.
 
yeah it is worth the drive to get some good stuff.i also have a friend that lives a few miles from SITC.he has some nice sps stuff i can get from him.

i know they have had few bad cust ppl most of them are gone. i know most fish prices are there hanging fro he ceiling the rare stuff usually isnt dunno y tho. chis p is my bestfriend hes trying to turn the store around from the old owner its been remodel for the lost 3 months slowly.
i know john and jen from faios very nice ppl.

pricing around tampa bay , u should know what u looking for
and done ur research not evey1 gonna have the same price cuz no every1 gets their stuff from the same ppl. i can tell some stores still buy fish that been caught with sydnie( however u spell it) its up us to see.

MLIVVY - what are you trying to say? Did you get lost? Do a "map quest" or any other mapping before going and zoom into the area. Have their number and when you get close call them and they will gladly get you to their store. Or did I get your post wrong? Any of the mapping software will tell you the mileage - so I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
 
RICAN, I think what we are trying to say is that just because the owner is your best friend it is not reason enough to dismiss the complaints. What I brought up (and you missed to whole point) was he was complaining about the store you are promoting. You completely missed what the post was about to promote your "friends" store. You are just an advertisement for the store and if I need to see the owner to get good service then IMO there is something wrong with that store. The best thing you could have done was to say that you are sorry and that you know the owner and that you would try to get the issue resolved.

When someone is a newbie and all you have done is looked at pics, things look very different when you walk into a store. Without labels or someone willing to help - which is what this post is about - why go to the store?

About the cyanide - I will guarantee you FAIOS does not sell fish caught in this manner. I tried to get a fish from John and he said he would not get it because of the way they are caught. I tried to get a coral that has a poor survival rate - he will not get these. He took the time to educate me on these issues and now I know. That said, I can tell you I've seen these in other stores in the area, but now I know a little more about them. This goes for everyone in that store not just John, when I ask a question I get reliable answers not just someone trying to sell me something.

Hey Carlos - thanks for the reply and the information provided. I really did imply that you were pointing the figure at John but just in case someone thought that I wanted to point it out. Its' good news that FINZ is trying to clean up and they are responsible owners in that they are careful how their livestock is handled before they find them a home - I like that.

Could you give use some information on what to look for in a fish that was caught with cyanide? I have a freshwater fish that looked perfect for about 4 months then he started to get a strange body shape. We call him our "Special Needs" fish and is doing great. I've had him almost two years now strange body and all. I'd read that's one of the side effects of cyanide - he never showed symptoms.

I've worked with a lot of incompetent people who graduated from Cornell, Princeton, MIT and Northwestern over the years in IT in NYC. I'm not impressed by Ivy league degrees. It doesn't mean anything if they cannot apply what they learned. I went to a community college in Indianapolis and I am usually their team lead. Sorry comments like that REALLY irk me.
