MLIVVY - what are you trying to say? Did you get lost? Do a "map quest" or any other mapping before going and zoom into the area. Have their number and when you get close call them and they will gladly get you to their store. Or did I get your post wrong? Any of the mapping software will tell you the mileage - so I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

:D no i got lost. i wasn't really paying attention when i went anyway. i ended up in clearwater somewhere. lol
i called the store and they told me how to get there. sorry you didn't get my joke. ;)

Thank you for answering my question.

Different strokes for different folks. One store may cater to another needs while that same store may not cater at all.

I buy most of my corals @ LFS/some trading and some on the internet. All of my dry goods come from a LFS unless they do not carry what I need and if I can wait they will get it in or take care of me. In my expereince the pricing is the same as the internet if not lower. I bought a skimmer that was acturally less expensive with taxes then it would of cost on the internet with free frt. Plus they are local if anything ever goes wrong I do not have to worry about RMA#S/shipping/call tags...etc

Give me a pm I will tell you who I deal with.

Sorry there got on a rant there about the degree thing. OK customer service!! Customer Service!! (evidently Yale doesn't offer a course in that) sorry couldn't resist..

Chris :D

mflamb just brought up a good thought - "customer service" really what does that mean in the LFS business? Is customer service just the basics - stop reading the paper and take care of me when I walk in? Sell me what you have in your store and that is all I'm looking for. Is it "If I ask for it I'll get it for them" if it's good for the industry or not. You will find all types in the area. You can walk into a store on Saturday and then return to that same store on Tuesday - are they the same store?

Could you give use some information on what to look for in a fish that was caught with cyanide?

Cyanide caught fish typically show the following signs:

Extra Vibrant Coloration
Reluctance to eat
Pinched stomach and low body mass from the pectoral fins back to the tail.
Laziness - If the fish is notorious for being active and is just hanging out in one spot then it may be juiced.
Fish from "Indo-Pacific" or Philipines are higher risks of being Cyanide caught.

Customer service is important but responsibility to the hobby and the livestock they sell are also traits that I look for in an LFS. I use to cringe everytime I walked into Finz and saw several morish idols, potter angels, Bandit Angels, and Dendronepthya corals and watched them explain to prospective customers that these animals are easy to keep, hardy and eat everything. They are obviously putting that education to good use with advice like that.

In defense of FINZ, to be fair, I've only been there once and was assisted by T.J. He was very helpful. He didn't know the prices of most of the SPS that they had for sale, but he had a "price range". When we got back in the car, my wife questioned the "price range". After hearing Carlos discuss "get you a deal", I began to understand "price range". I also pointed and Aptasia on a rock in their rock for sale section, and he left it there, and he then pointed some out in one of their display tanks. I also met Chris, (not the owner), away from the store, who works there. He seemed intelligent and friendly. I would imagine he would be helpful in the store. But the point of this whole thread is customer service at LFS. I've been to 11 so far in Tampa area and Orlando area, and for the most part customer service is good. I believe customer service is what makes a lot of the difference between an average LFS and a great LFS. Listen to the comments on this forum, and most of the praise of a LFS has to do with it's owners/employees treatment of the individual. Second is the stuff they bought there.
Why am I visiting so many stores??? I have a 390 to stock. I will be spending $$$ for years. I want the best "stuff" and the best service.
Just a thought...think about it.

I agree with you 100% triggerfish1976! Yeah, customer service is important to us personally - how we are treated and that counts, but the most important aspect of our hobby is responsibility. It must first come from the LFS. I'm a newbie as far as the "New ways" (Had SW tank in the 80's) and I need a LFS that is willing to properly educate me so I become a responsible reef keeper. I've only found one that has taken the time and were at the standards I was after. This is not a passing hobby for me, I've had FW fish for many years and I'd like to have the opportunity to keep a reef tank for the rest of my life.
