Sounds like bubble algae but can not say with out a pic!
Sorry about the crap your going thru! Hope it doesn't totally sour yor marine experience. It's a great hobby , hang in there!

The pics didn't come out the greatest. What I am talking about can be "seen" at the top right of the coral cluster (the blurry pic actually catches light going through what I am talking about). Also, when attempting pics, I saw about 6 tinier bubbles.

I have the piece "quarantined", (I use the word loosely) in a 2 cup measuring cup.

What do I do? I was going to tweeze the bubbles and the swish it around in the cup.

Any words of advice?

See if you can remove the bubbles w/o breaking it. You might have to rock it gently back and forth but they can come off in a ball.

If one breaks take a new toothbrush and scrub the affected area real good. I would also setup like 3 or 4 other cups with your saltwater in it and dip the coral and swish it, move to the next cup, dip and swish, etc... then put it in the tank. Really get it rinsed well.

Bubble algae is what caused me to bleach half of my liverock, couldn't get rid of it otherwise. It doesn't harm anything just a pain. I also didn't want to get an Emerald crab which eats bubble algae because I guess they can be hit or miss with it (but mainly hit).

Just my advice.

My advice ,get some practice on those macro shots! lol
do an image search on bubble algae to make sure! it does look like it though! Bubble is a problem algae with poor water conditions. If they pop they will spread spores. if you are carefull you can wedge them off without popping ,use something like a bic pen cap . if it pops just swish in some saltwater it will help . try to use the water your aclimating it in you dont want to shock the coral!

Alright, surgery is done. I pulled off all of the big ones without breaking and most of the little ones without breaking. I did the dunk method through 5 different cups, kept going until I saw no more little green bubbles or traces of them.

Hopefully it will be a success.

Other cube is on its way, double-boxed (which it should have been in the first place). It will be here by the end of the day on Wednesday.

Also, did water testing today and everything is well within parameters.

Slowly but surely.....

Colin, Let me no when the next PPV event is! You may regret this!

Steve, keep an eye on the bubble algae... it may come back!

Don't tell me I am flying to CHI-town for a PPV!!!!!!!!!!! (or driving---its only 11 hours..with the 1 hour change.)

From what I have seen, its a frag-tacular...

Tom, you can back me up on this one,

Steve I got your back on this one! You keep him distracted and I will frag one for you and one for me, one for you and one for me.............

Agh.......... I stuck my head in that tank, those sharks are wimps!! Steve can bonk you on the head and we will tell you it was the tequila worm.

HaHa!!!

Guys,

I am getting a good bit of evaporation from the 20 gallon (assuming that this is because there is no top, just the 2 hoods from 2 cracked cubes). Is this normal? Too much light maybe?

Let me know what you guys think....

On the 20L frag tank I lose about a 1/2-3/4 gallons a day, under VHO's, the 10g display maybe 1 gallon a week, both are open top, so yeah it is normal. If your home has dry air it evaporates more.

So........are flying out and leaving with some of Colins great tank? I think I can get some ninja gear if there is no PPV on.

I have a security system, once someone else's hand goes in the tank the Firefish killing Clarki magically shows up and attacks.

I got a ton of evaporation from my 20H while it was setup and it had a pretty good acrylic cover on it.

Wow, I just moved some things around and I like how it turned out. I'll have to get a pic.
