New toy to play with!

I've been fascinated with skimmers and figured that my H&S would stop my curiosity. LOL was I wrong. Even though my H&S kicks butt, I always wondered what if I bought the ATB instead. I must have read every single ATB thread there is and could not get over what I saw and read. Well, needless to say, I caved in. Here she is!!!

Damn, that's nice. Nice ride, Nice skimmer...I guess you're not sick anymore! :D Keep us posted on how it skims!

Is that a medium?

Oh, I am still sick. I'm not only sick with a cold, I am sick in the head!!! Yes, it's a medium. Man, this thing is so quiet and the bubbles it produces are so soft. A totally different type of bubble.

The bubbles are fairly large as it has not broken in yet. I have the pipe wide open so the water and bubble level is low. I can take a pic of my current level if you wish.

I'm going to keep the water wide open until it breaks in. I am 100% positive the bubbles will get smaller. My H&S and other skimmers were like this as well.

LOL, you couldn't help yourself but to take pics. Looks milky even from a distance. How are the bubbles different? All the ATB owners say that, but I can't picture it.

So are you running your HS concurrently while this breaks in?

Do you have a build thread?

Nah, I pulled the H&S. No room to run both. I do have a semi build thread somewhere. Nothing too spectacular. I think the main difference is the softer foam. All the other skimmers I have used produced a steady stream of bubbles. The ATB seems to produce a soft, almost pillow-like set of bubbles.

OK, I think I'm getting a clearer picture now. So the bubbles kinda float more. Like it's lighter?

Yes, that's a good analogy. A lighter foam is a good description. Btw, I already see some skimmate forming!

So lighter foam would lift more stuff up and into the collection cup? You see skimmate already? Awesome! Is this skimmer on your nightstand? Shouldn't you be in bed resting? :D

What do you think makes the bubbles float up instead of streaming up like the other skimmers?

I think it's because of the bubble plate. I think turbulence is minimized due to the plate. Because of this, the bubbles flow up smoothly and effortlessly. I'm sure the cone design also comes into play. Yeah, I'm beat. Talk to you guys tomorrow!
