new Tyree LE... tenuis??

Lol told you guys all these threads turn out the same. I have a name not persons tell me that guy wasn't trolling .. as a recovering troll I know the signs

All le debate threads are doomed before they begin like all pricing threads.

Ps whyd every buddy agree with the guy who repeated what I said but added an xkcd image... ...my posts not got enough zaz for you hmph

It is nice to have adult conversations without bashing people for having an opinion. That is how you make progress.

I personally felt that most of those things that organism listed applies to this topic, in one way or another. I do apologize if my comments on the market did not apply in this situation and took this thread in a different direction than what was intended.

As far as you all know, is this the first and only time tyree has done this? Perhaps there is some other motivation behind it that were just not seeing through our cynical eyes? I feel that if this is a one time offense that maybe its not worthy of "selling his brand down the river" tag...are there other instances of top shelf aquaculturists doing this? Sorry, I just dont keep up with this stuff since none of these LE corals are available commercially where i live aside from local reefers.

so conclusion is Im a troll for having an opinion and LE is a marketing hype ? lol :P

hahah lol joking ... I dont take any comments here personal ... its my hobby ... and I personally enjoy discussions ... and having no reefer friends (my friends think Im crazy loving corals so much :P) this is where I get my need to discuss lol and I try not to call ppl names when proven to be wrong :P

but yea reading the thread back ... I see my comments weren't really related to the original topic :) my bad :) twister thread :P haha

I buy corals that look good to me ... dont care for names ... and it ticks me off, when I see a coral I have as Blue acro, being sold in other places under a fancy name, and 10X the price ! lol and my frags ... they goto my friends, for free. I dont want to associate myself with the marketing stuff, I think if anyone should make more money from this, it should be the collector in the 3rd world country ... not stores or reefers in 1st world ... just my opinion though.

:smokin:yours truly, Troll with an opinion. lol

It's not the one and only since I think there's 3 new "LE" Acros that have come up in this thread, but it is pretty recent. Even before the tenuis, this past month or two people were starting to talk a bit about how the brand seems to be selling out to stuff that's wild and not very nice. So it's not cynical as much as disappointingly realistic :(

As far as other top shelf aquaculturists, there really aren't any aside from ORA. For those high end names it's mainly just chop shoppers who put their name on big wild colonies from wholesalers and don't captive raise much of anything. Why captive raise when you have 100 frags worth $100+ an inch and you can sell it right then and there before it devalues... It's why I have a lot of respect for Tyree actually aquaculturing his stuff.

MammothReefer.....
What ticks me off (and this is a personal thing) about the LE thing is when other peoples corals get "LE'd" and they don't get credit. Perfect example is the original Monster Mash Chalice (which imop really set off the chalice craze). It was purchased my buddy Charles (Chin_monster), who was happy selling frags here and then.. then Hugo bought a frag shot it off to Tyree and it became an "LE". With no credit back to Charles.. that is lame imop and i'm sure this wasn't the only time it happened.

Really !!!!!! Are you sure about what your saying how can u prove yourself of this accusation

Ya, heard it from the man himself. Unless he was mistaken, but I'm doubtful.

You not a fan of atlantis stuff? I'm visiting the bay area hoping to snag a frag of that purple turkai I saw on there site if it looks as good in person as it does.

Wow I just got done reading this thread.

Lots of look a like corals are sold daily as LE. Branding is just part of becoming a collector hobby. It's the job of the hobbiest to weed through the junk and grow and propagate the good strains and species. This is what tyree and others started with their branding methods, unfortunatly pleanty of people have used this for personal gain. We need to spend less time arguing about this and more time educating people about how to be a successful hobbiest. If you watch the forums actively as I do you see there's plenty of people willing to learn all we have to do is provide the knowledge for them to consume and create successful tanks.

This thread could have been educational, instead it's frightening to read.

Let's end the days of LE and start CR(captive raised!)

amen, I see these way too often..

You see threads bringing up how Tyree has been putting his name on questionable quality mostly wild pieces the past few months? Or do you mean how any thread mentioning Tyree gets hijacked into an LE/pricing thread so badly that it gets confused for one.

Just because there's people taking it into tired old tangents doesn't mean you can't help make it educational and bring it back on track :) What is it that you feel would help?

Normally when I get around threads like this and I don't understand why...
Well, I think the bottom line here is that when someone gets a very unusual coral and can reproduce it (fragging), the price of that frag would need to get a little higher to compensate the costs of fragging it (time, light, additives,...).
That's still acceptable.
My problem is with those who like to make money "fragging" wild corals! The "cut, glue and sell" type. Disgusting!!!
This hobby needs to have people to fight against those who are making the extra profit for the wild colonies.
I've seen same thing, or worse, with zoas.
Their frags even have the piece of live rock!!!!
I'm glad that we've got people to trade and hope that can grow very much, so the "black market" doesn't survive for long.
Just very sad!!!!

Grandis.

Im assuming the later part of ur statement... its very hard for people to stick to the OP and the subject it clearly stated... its unfortunate... and imo, somewhat disrespectful to the OP in general... the thread gets sent into a direction and topic it had no intention of going, becuz a persom or two cant make their own thread to complain about their issues with whatever...

Personally, it seems like Tyree will put his name on anything now it seems, and it jus trickles down from there... dont get me wrong, alot of his stuff is nice, and some VERY nice, but lets face it, its getting out of hand.... the pink lemonade acro thing, threw me for a loop personally... if its "limited edition", u cant jus replace it with something else that looks nothing like the other... jmo

It's just a joke at this point

The whole LE marketing sham was a joke from day one. He never had anything that wasn't available from other channels. When someone would boast they got the same species/coral from another source, people would say stupid things like, "it's not the same lineage as the LE piece".................lol.

Limited editions are becoming more about the name attached to them than how nice the actual coral is. With how heavy corals are collected, they are running out of truley unique corals so they are just giving names to anything they can find to make an extra buck. But it's all marketing and supply and demand. If everyone stops paying hundreds of dollars for tiny frags, they will be forced to sell them for normal coral prices. But as long as there is demand for these "LE" pieces, they will keep adding more and keep prices high.

Where the Hell is Tyree anyways. Get him on here

If he defended himself it would get the thread shut down, and really who cares? This Is a thread that has been done and locked many times over.

Corals have been getting LE'd after a couple months in captivity from these guys for years. They don't always prove the coral before making it an LE. If you don't like that then do more research before buying.

Hey Neal...I don't really understand this statement??
