New underwater Camera

Olympus sales, don't be silly now. I'm a mudslinger, building big houses.
I've always loved the close shots. Matthew Garbario , Daniel Knop ,to name a few are inspiring. So when I tried to take a close shot with the camera well I'm a little blown away. Glad to hear you like and hopeful to get better.

So how close are you holding the camera to the object? Some of these are really excellent.

just to clarify -- are you using flash? my camera does not support flash when in super macro mode* and sadly i cant adjust the shutter speed :(

but hey, keep showin off man im diggin the pics...just gave me the idea about a series of paintings on close up corals. how awesome would that be?

Man those are awesome!! too bad my clowns would bit my hands off if I did that. They would probably make me drop the camera and break it

You could drop it as many times as you want in the aquarium.

great shots, once you really get onto the photoshop RGB levels they could be stunning ;)

I'm in super macro mode on the camera and the flash does not turn on in that mode, but the camera has a small led that can be used "Macro LED". Most of the pics are in super macro with camera set on anti shake. Also some pics are in super macro with the camera set to underwater macro.
Most of the pics are taken at about 2" some in the 3 to 4 range, First pressing the shoot button halfway down will auto focus then fully pressed will finish the shot. That is where the anti shake or stabilize setting helps.
I'm running a Mac so the pics are going through iphoto and most are being cropped and then the noise slightly reduced also some pics esp super close I'm adj the sharpness taking out some of the blur. So I guess the camera is getting a little bit of help.
Dropping the camera should also not be a problem it comes with a sticker saying this is the strongest camera you'll ever buy.
Only problem seems to be the blue the lines on the clam, manderin, and my blue tang look funny to me, still working on it.

o.c.d - can you please post some pics of unprocessed pics? I am a total noob when it comes to picture taking. I literally snap pics, and upload them. I'm very interested in the camera, but curious to see how pics would look if I were to take them (unprocessed) :)

VERY nice. You never answered the question.... how are you able to go into your tank and take these pics? snorkel and mask, must be pretty funny?

Your joking right?.... and I did answer with the comment. It has a 2.7" LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) on the back or "little T.V." . The camera doesn't even have a tradicional view finder. Thats what you would normally look through. Hope that clears things up. But If my tank was big enough Yes I would be in it with a snorkel and mask and I'm sure my wife would walk in shaking her head in disbelief but yet not surprised in the least bit.

hey o.c.d.,

not to reign on your parade, but i gotta say man - other than the first one i kinda like the unprocessed images more. i think it gets a lil out of focus when you run em thru photoshop (at least w. ur current method) i've done some graphics design but sadly i cant give you any tips on the photo editing - especially underwater photos. I did edit photos here and there but didnt really have a scientific go-to method but just fooled around w. settings until it felt right. and i know it is a subjective concept, but wanted to give you my 2coppers.

on a side note, i am planning on putting a mask and a snorkel and take a peak at my tank from a different angle this summer -- thinking it would be interesting to see them like that and for them to see me like that. i hope i dont cause an ich outbreak :P

Ya I'm definitely sacrificing some quality croping and zooming that close some seen turn out better than others. An to be honest I don't know what I'm doing just moving the dials on computer, and playing with the knobs on the camera trying to make it look good and get as close as possible. That has always been my process trial and error. Thanks for the input I agree some are too close.
