new vrolik's wrasse

Nina - you could put that sand in a tupperware or similar container, that way you could make it deeper and contain it better. You can also hide it behind your rockwork if you want.

it isn't a big deal for me, he'll be in qt for several weeks. since he's the only one in there, i just do a 2 or 3 gallon water change every few days no matter what the ammonia alert badge says. i use a turkey baster every day to get the poop logs out. the sand in my dt is plenty deep in the back of the tank for him to bury himself. :)

yessiree! everything gets qt'ed around these parts. i have fed this guy 3 times today and NOTHING has hit the sand. he might outgrow the 10g before his time is up in qt!

It doesn't need to be sugar sand by any means. 2-3mm should be fine.
What you don't want is something as coarse as, or approaching that of, crushed coral which lends well to causing cuts/abrasions on the fish. This can lead to bacterial infections.

Cool, thanks. Most of my sand is the Gulf of Mexico sand from Tampa Bay Saltwater. Pretty sure it's all 1-3mm.
