SCWD create a good amount of back pressure. The don't have mpt fittings and they leak all the time. They have to be cleaned like every other month. I have gone thru 2 SCWD in the past 9 months. Never again. I am ordering the 4-way unit next week.

I agree, it is WELL worth the cost to get 8 outlets in your tank, PLUS in a couple months we will be able to "upgrade" to a unit that has a night/feed mode to it.
I am a dealer for sea-swirls and they are a PIA. I have over 500 of them in customers tanks (some tanks have 5, that is over 700 bucks right there), and almost all of them have had somthing go wrong over time, they will all be getting switched out over time............ truckload of used sea-swirls anyone?

Someone explain why 379 is expensive? A set of tunzes can run you 700 bucks+, seaswirls are 150 each.... thats just the tip of the iceberg in looking at wavemaking devices.

Oh, also, can you find someone else that will sell you an 8 way unit period?

I dont see the price being a big deal at all.

As a quick breakdown, look at the 4 way + 4 revolutions.
That totals say 320 bucks.

Now do the same thing with 2 SCWDs and 4 Seaswirls. Tadda. 500 -700 dollars depending on which swirls you buy.

Its something that nobody else is making, it seems to be quality, and from what Ive gathered talking to Paul, he'll stand behind his product.

Well, I gotta jump in here and defend the price of these things (not sure why - it's just how I "feel").

To me anyone who can't see the difference between these things and a sea-swirl or a scwd deserves what he gets.

First off, has anyone taken apart a sea-swirl? There is no way on this earth that they can justify the price they get for those based on the quality of materials or manufacturing. It is a crude piece of machinery. Paul's machines look anything but crude. Nonetheless the sea-swirl sells many units at the price it has because it is unique and there is nothing else that functions like it on the market. The same can be said for Paul's machines.

There is nothing else out there that provides the flow capability along with the (at this point probable) reliability as these things. Also, to me, the sinusoidal surge that they provide is an important feature that nothing else has, except perhaps for the tunze Streams, which I guess you could buy instead if you are being price sensitive :rolleye1:

I also wonder about the manufacturing of these. It appears that they are all individually cnc machined. I'm not up on the latest manufacturing capabilities of those machines, but I'm guessing that is not the most cost effective method out there.

So, hopefully I won't have justified Paul raising his prices as a result of this reply. I know there will always be people who complain, but to me this is an outstanding product that has been frankly just waiting to be made (it is after all just a very good refinement of a diy concept that has been out there for years), and Paul deserves our gratitude (and some of our money) for doing such an outstanding job with it.

Does anybody know when the food/night switch will be available and how this will work? Will it be some sort of optical sensor where when the lights go off the amount of flow is lowered or is it a physical switch one will need to 'flip' to bring the low flow into affect? Also, how much will it cost?

Thanks.

A shame some people cannot justify pricing, esp. when it is extremely within limits. A motorized valve that is used on some DIY models is around $500 (do a search) and this is complete with unit housing and fine machinery work, with threads and screw holes included. Very nice work Paul.

Are you planning on going through a distributer or are all orders going to be handled by your company? Any idea on an exact date to start putting in orders depending on product availability? (I already have my taxes back:D ). Thanks for making an extremely nice looking product that takes care of a lot of wavemaking problems that have been around.

Well as far as the night/feeding switch, It will (from what I understand from talking to paul) be a sensor in the drum that "tells" the motor where the holes in the drum are in relation to the body, then it will always "default" back to a preset outlet (like 1&2) so when your wavermaker shuts off at night it will go to that setting.
I was under the impression that it would be a few months but will be easy to "retro' into units that have been already bought.

Like I said before I have over 500 sea-swirls in customer tanks and have had a very high number of problems with them.

Keep up the good work paul!!

I agree with a few of you that posted above. It kind of seems cheap compared to the sea swirls, squids ect, plus it looks very well designed. I am up for 2 of the 4 ways when there ready to ship. Just my 2 cents

The 8 way design is quiet interesting, should give credit to the designer.

Are the 8 revolution" included in the 8 way unit?

I have a ? on the 4 way version 3.

Is this more popular at this point than version 2? Kind of hard to tell what is popular with something this new, but I am trying to think if I like it better or version 2 better.

Either way, this is definitely on the "wish list".

Looks like there is not much comparison to the sqwd's, which I have two of right now. I can see the benifits of less restriction. I guess, that is the benifit of the version3. Very much "wide open", but still oscellating.

Looks cool, but I have used that same motor for building fly rods and they dont last too long. My question is, is the motor easy to replace WHEN it burns out?

I think it's great except for the fact of all the pvc piping it adds to someone's tank. you need a good amount of space behind the tank for all of it! Plus the fact that we have to custom plumb it on our own (far from a plug and play setup)

if it were not for that I would, without a doubt be buying the 4 way setup.

Got an 8 way on order, paul was very helpful, but definately this is not plug and play, but it allows for all most unlimted configurations. Paul was very helpful, I will post pics and setup images as soon as I recieve. Awesome I found this tread as I was just about to purchase a few sea swirls.

Well, I beleive Paul has revolutionized what we call " wavemaking " in reefing.

I read this whole thread.. And didn't understand a single thing, except that I can hook it up and have 4 simultaneous streams of water in my tank...

Does this thing need to be hooked up to a pump? ( 4-way I am referring to )... I will definetly be purchasing one of these, without a doubt.. Too good to pass.

I dub thee Paul, as Wavemaster.
