I just realized that the Revolutions only go down a 1/2". What if they could go down let us say 2" and that way you have them on the surface level and go down, spray and go back out in order for you not to see them?

Might work? Like a sprinkler?

I think Paul's disclaimer about the units really says something about their construction. For example, I bet if I tried to stop one of my sea swirls from moving while it was turned on it would probably ruin the motor. Sounds like Paul's units are pretty much indestructable.

Travis - actually talked to Paul about this. it strips out the shaft (or something) and DOESN"T burn up the motor so a replacement is CHEAP. hope he posts the exact part and what happens here

The photo gallery has pics of my plumbing job.

Serge, your famous now. I bet he just put the pics up there because of your background. Your pics would have never made it with a blue or black background. j/k:lol:

here is the start of the plumbing for mine

used 1" MPT X 3/4" slip reducers or converters whatever they are called....worked out slick. will do 90's into the tank and 90's to face forward. used 45's to make the 2 rear ones go straight sideways. the 2 fronts will point toward opposite corners adn the 2 back ones will go in the front corners of the tank and face toward the middle OR opposite back corners.

anyone have a good tip to make PVC black??? i have heard that a perminent marker works but dont' know if it is toxic or not? guess they say non-toxic on them but anyone have a problem? i guess i could SEE if they make 3/4" ABS 90's. i know they have ABS but i haven't used it much so not sure what fittings they have.

Lunchbucket, black pvc fittings of all shapes and sizes are available, although some areas (like Delaware :() have building code regulations against them, so they will be harder to find.....

Lunchbucket paint the PVC with two part black epoxy, the reef safe kind. Thats what I did with the parts of pvc that are inside the tank.

I didn't know you were a "Union" plumber Lunchbucket...seems like you know what you are doing!!

Years ago I used to be heavy into RC cars, boats etc, I used to dye parts black using "Rit" dye, I have no idea how safe it is.
Boil the parts in water with the dye and let it cool, worked well but never tried it with PVC, no reson why it would not work.

Just wondering what I could use these boat props for? hmm.

Paul

Well, I talked with Paul this afternoon and we're trying to work out a good plan for my new tank.

My big problem now is that I just ordered a 4300SEQ12 pump earlier this week (on sale!) and now I think it's too big. I can get good flow with a much smaller pump and an 8-way.

I chose that pump to power 4 Sea Swirls but with the 8-way it looks like all that flow will be coming out of only two openings at once. Could this blow my plumbing?

Mickey

Hey Dave go to Pauls site www.oceansmotions.com you can see a video of the 8 way there.
As per buying one Dave:
All I can tell you is that I have spend thousands upon thousands of dollars in this hobby & IMO the 8 way is by far the best investment I have made thus far.
I use the words investment because this thing is indestructable & you will own it for a very ling time.
Also best of all, no power heads in the tank

Dale,

I'm in Sacramento. Mine arrives on Tuesday. I hope to have it running Tuesday or Wednesday night. Your welcome to come and see it.

Mickey:

I've got the same pump and plans to use it with a heavy duty 4-way on a closed loop. I can't tell you that this will work because I am wainting on my stand in order to set-up the tank, so the pump is still in the box.

The way I looked at it though was the 4-way or 8-way for that matter is only like adding another 90 elbow in the line. It appears from the video and design that as the drum rotates it never completly stops the water flow. As one port closes the other is opening at the same rate so at any given time you should have the same area of exit available for the flow. (even if only half of each port is open that would equal one whole). My plan is to order the drum which allows 1&3 and 2&4 to open. Then add as many holes or exit ports in the tank as needed in order to reduce the velocity at each exit to an acceptable amount.

I may be off with my thoughts so if someone thinks so please comment as I don't want to spread bad advice. Also, I would hate to find that the flow was too much for the unit, because at 3600 gph it would not take long to cause a huge problem if the unit failed.

Again great product from what I can tell. I will be ordering a HD 4way soon.

Hey Mickey, how's it going?

Don't underestimate the reducing effect from having many outlets. I have an AM3k on a closed loop with seven 3/4" outlets and the flow coming out of each outlet is very weak. I guess with the oceansmotions devices, only a few outlets are on at once, but still something to consider. You can always throttle back the pump, or branch off of it to supply flow to something else.

For what it's worth, I just got a used 3600SEQ for a 4 way I plan to get. I may use the AM3K instead and put the sequence on the closed loop, or I may plumb a few extra outlets in addition to the 4 way, but either way, I already have a 5800SEQ as my sump return (basement sump supplying two tanks) and I think Sequence makes great pumps. Also make sure that the pump you got is converted for saltwater. The numbered models need a different seal and a sleeve for the shaft. You can get the kit at plumbingsupply.com for about $40. It's not hard to install.
